Centeno Jr. stops Prieto; Rios defeats Sanchez

By Jim Dower: Undefeated super featherweight Ronny Rios (18-0, 8 KO’s) defeated Guillermo Sanchez (13-6-1, 5 KO’s) by an eight round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Phoenix Club, in Anaheim, California, United States. The final judges’ scores were 80-72, 80-72 and 80-72.

The 22-year-old Rios dominated Sanchez from start to finish, overwhelming him with combinations and hard body shots. The fight, which never competitive from the start, got really out of hand late in the bout when Rios was hitting Sanchez at will with heavyweights.

Centeno Jr. destroys Prieto

Undefeated junior middleweight prospect Hugo Centeno Jr (13-0, 7 KO’s) defeated Gerardo Cesar Prieto (7-13-1) by a 4th round TKO. Prieto hurt his right hand in the 4th, leading to Centeno Jr. teeing off on him ending with the referee Dr. Lou Moret stepping in to halt the fight.

Reyes blasts out Ortiz in 1st round KO

Making his pro debut, Johnny Reyes (1-0, 1 KO’s) defeated Jose Ortiz (0-3) in the 1st round. The fight was halted at the 1:22 mark after Reyes landing two hard body shots that sent Ortiz down on the canvas.

Ramirez destoys Cifuentes

Undefeated featherweight Julian Ramirez (2-0, 2 KO’s) crushed Salvador Cifuentes (1-4) in the 1st round. Ramirez knocked Cifuentes twice in the fight. The bout was halted after the 2nd knockdown in the round. Ramirez had Cifuentes on the canvas in the opening seconds of the bout with a hard combination. Cifuentes got up and was snowed under by shots. He continued the best he could and was able to last a little while longer until getting dropped for the second time in the round with several hard shots. The fight was officially stopped at 1:20 of the round.

Montelongo decisions Espinoza

Super featherweight Xavier Montelongo (2-0) defeated Rocco Espinoza (3-4) by a four round unanimous decision. The final judges’ scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37.
