It’s doubtful that’s going to happen, however, and the second choice is likely Top Rank fighter Miguel Cotto, but he’s not going to get the fight unless he agrees to draining down to 147lbs so that Pacquiao doesn’t have to deal with the full strength of the Puerto Rican star.

As of now, it doesn’t appear that Cotto is willing to give Pacquiao that advantage. According to Ronnie Nathanielsz at philboxing.com, Bradley could be the next in line. Bradley would be easy because it won’t require Pacquiao to make any changes in his weight and Bradley fights in the same Top Rank stable, so that would likely keep promoter Bob Arum happy.

Bradley isn’t a particularly popular or well-known fighter with the casual boxing fans, but then again neither was Joshua Clottey and Pacquiao still fought him.

Lamont Peterson may have to fight a rematch against Amir Khan and that could cause some hesitation in him being used. In addition, Peterson was beaten by Bradley, so it would be more interesting for Bradley to be picked than Peterson based on that fact.

The best option would be Pacquiao-Mayweather, but Pacquiao wants a 50-50 deal and Mayweather sees Pacquiao as not on his same level and doesn’t want to give a lesser fighter the same amount of money as him. Mayweather obviously has a point because Pacquiao went life and death with Marquez recently to win a questionable decision. Pacquiao is a popular fighter with boxing fans but probably not even close to being as good as Mayweather.

Arum obviously believes Pacquiao is just as good if not better than Mayweather and doesn’t want to take less. Arum feels this way but in looking at Mayweather and Pacquiao in their fights, Mayweather does look a lot better than the Filipino star.
