Image: Ward easily beats Froch, captures Super Six trophy, WBC belt and Ring titleBy Scott Gilfoid: Once again, I was right about my prediction. Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) looked like a fighter a teaching boxing to an unskilled pupil on Saturday night in winning the Super Six tournament final bout against an outclassed and painfully slow WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s).

The fight was never close from the outset, and only got worse as the bout entered the later rounds. In beating Froch, Ward captured not only the Super Six tourney trophy, but also Froch’s World Boxing Council belt as well as the Ring title. The judges scores were a little peculiar because for 99% of the boxing fans who saw the fight, they saw Ward winning either all 12 rounds or at the minimum 11 of 12.

But two of the judges scored it 115-113, 115-113. The last judge had it 118-110. Even that was far too many rounds for Froch. He didn’t do enough to win any rounds on my score card and believe me, I was literally bending over backwards trying to give Froch some mercy rounds. I just couldn’t. He was too clumsy, too slow and just too wide open on defense for me to give him even one round.

Ward landed 243 of 573 punches thrown for a 42% connect percentage. Froch’s horrible connect percentage said it all, connecting on 156 of 683 punches for only 23%. As you can see, the judges gave Froch a ton of mercy rounds in this fight. Good god, how could you even give Froch one round.

After the fight, Froch showed some class, saying “I lost fair and square.”

I’m glad Froch acknowledged that. I’d hate to have seen him blaming the loss on some kind of conspiracy.

Froch was getting lit up all fight long and it was too one-sided for my taste. I almost wanted Ward to back off and put it in neutral for a while so Froch could catch up a little just so I could stay awake. I mean gosh, it was too one-sided.
