Image: David Price should overtake Tyson Fury in 2012By Marcus Sales: In January David Price will take on John McDermott in a British Title eliminator. This fight has been postponed a couple of times and I am really looking forward to seeing Price in the ring again. No disrespect to John McDermott but I feel he will be out of his league against Price and that Price will win in convincing fashion. Where will this leave Price in the heavyweight scene?

There has been an awful lot of hype surrounding the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in the last 12 months. His promoter Mick Hennesey went as far to say that he will be the number one heavyweight in eighteen months. I couldn’t disagree more. I thought that Fury looked awful in his last 2 fights against Firtha and Pajkic. He was rocked by both and put down by Pajkic, who is not regarded as a puncher. Yes he beat Chisora, but for whatever reason Chisora came into that fight severely out of shape.

After seeing off McDermott, Price will become the mandatory challenger for Fury’s British title and I only see one winner. In his last two fights against Raphael Butler and Tom Dallas, Price has looked everything Fury hasn’t. He has looked in control, immensely powerful, good defensively and generally a very good technical boxer.

I see Price as having the potential to go all the way in the heavyweight division. I am in no way saying that he is ready for the Klitschko’s but I do feel he is superior to the majority of young heavyweight contenders out there, namely: Chisora, Fury, Helenius, Perez, Wilder and Mitchell. I believe that by this time next year Price will be too much for contenders such as the current WBA regular champion Povetkin. I look forward to watching Price’s development in 2012 and only hope that the Price v Fury fight does indeed materialise.
