Image: GBP: No discussions for a Mayweather-Morales fightBy Chris Williams: There has been no such discussions for a May 5th fight between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KOs) and Erik Morales (52-7. 36 KO’s) according to news from Dan Rafael, who spoke with Morales’s promoters from Golden Boy Promotions about the issue. A day earlier, Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, said that Mayweather is looking to fight Morales on May 5th rather than Pacquiao. However, it looks like Arum was just guessing without knowing what’s happening.

Rafael said on his twitter “Golden Boy represents Morales and works with Floyd, and according to GB there has been NO discussion of them fighting. It won’t happen.”

That kind of takes the air out of Arum’s belief that Mayweather is looking in a different direction. Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellberbe recently revealed that they want to fight the “Little fella” next, obviously referring to Manny Pacquiao and not the 5’8″ Morales. Mayweather and Morales are both the same height, so why would Ellerbe refer to Morales as the “Little fella?” It’s obvious that Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao next. Arum needs to stay relaxed and keep it together so he doesn’t blow the fight. The last thing we need to see is Pacquiao failing to agree to a few small things that Mayweather asks for and then going off and fighting another one of Arum’s fighters from his Top Rank stable like Joshua Clottey, Mike Jones or Timothy Bradley. Who wants to see those mismatches? I know I don’t. Of course, the gravy train will be over once Pacquiao faces Mayweather because Pacquiao is going to get humiliated.
