Mayweather gets away with a cheap shot in stopping Ortiz

By Allen Fox: Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda – Two wrongs don’t make a right, in particularly when one of the fighters gets away with fouling while the other is penalized. This is the situation for last nights’ fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) and WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KO’s).

Mayweather gets headbutted in the 4th round, Ortiz apologizes, and then gets brained by Mayweather while still in the process of apologizing before the action has resumed. If it wasn’t so tragic it would be hilarious. It’s just so wrong.

Moments earlier, Ortiz had given Mayweather a painful looking headbutt while teeing off on him. Why Ortiz did this I’ll never know, because he was doing really without the headbutt and didn’t seem to need that kind of thing to hurt Mayweather. The referee Joe Cortez took a point away from Ortiz.

I had no problem with that, but why Cortez didn’t take a point away from Mayweather when he fouled Ortiz immediately after this I don’t understand. I know some boxing fans feel that Ortiz got what he deserved for headbutting Mayweather, and that anything goes at that point.

However, if you’re going to penalized Ortiz for his wrongs, why isn’t Mayweather at least getting a point taken away for hitting Ortiz before the action has restarted? That is so wrong it’s not even funny. Of course, Mayweather is a star and Ortiz is much lower on the totem pole.

On one hand we’ve got a major star in Mayweather and the other you’re talking a relative small fry. Ortiz doesn’t bring in huge PPV numbers. His fights aren’t even pay per view until now. I think Mayweather got away with something that a lot of other fighters would have been disqualified for tonight.

To be sure, Ortiz pulled a dirty move, but what Mayweather did was far worse in my eyes because he tagged a guy when he wasn’t even ready. At least Mayweather was covering up when Ortiz headbutted him. Had Mayweather just been calmly talking to Ortiz and then got headbutted, it would have likely been a more painful reaction from Mayweather because he wouldn’t have expected. But to tag a guy when he’s not ready to get hit, that’s a cheap shot and it shouldn’t have counted.

I think if the situation was reversed and Ortiz was the one that hit Mayweather a cheap shot that knocked him flat, I don’t think Ortiz would have gotten away with it. I think he would have been disqualified on the spot. That’s what I believe, I think Mayweather is someone that is just too popular fight now and is going to get the benefit of the doubt on things like this.

You really got to feel for Ortiz right about now. He worked so hard to get to this point just to lose his title on a stoppage like this. It’s sad and unbelievable. Knowing boxing, the result wills stand, there won’t be a rematch and Ortiz will have to move on and hope maybe to get lucky in getting a fighter like Amir Khan to give him a shot once he moves up in weight.

    @wasted my money

you also just wasted some space on this site with your comments. Ortiz was penalized because of an illegal headbutt, Mayweather was not because, in the eyes of the judge he didn’t do nothing wrong. Before Mayweathe’sr devestating shots, the referee had already told them to go back to fighting, check the tape and you will see. Instead of obeying the referee, Ortiz left himself open. I remember some years ago, when Oliver McCall did the same thing and did not put his had up to fight, but that was not reason for his opponent to stop punching. It’s called boxing, not kiss and hug time. Mayweather after taking a cheap shot, wasn’t going to take any chances with taking another.

  • polo says:

ortiz was looking for a way out of that fight. He was getting punished bad. Tried to damage floyd with his head. He should have been disqualified right there. Got what he deserved. U gona fight dirty keep those hands up.

  • donnieb says:

Victor “no mas/headbutt” ortiz was being tutored on the art of boxing before the ultimate lesson: PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES. This is boxing not lets kiss and make-up for 10mins during a championship fight (the mosley technique). You get what you deserve when you’re in the ring with floyd. Floyd said he’ll son him and i guess, well he did. Lessons need to be learnt here. I hope everyone’s aware floyd is the WBC welterweight champion lol.

  • eustaquio says:

is this what floyd is calling a level playing field??? if he did not want the 2nd apology of ortiz, he must have pushed him back and punched him right in the temple.. but what did he do, he accepted the hug of ortiz and then boom… 1 and two combination…

    what a level playing field… ;-)

  • Grandall says:

I was expecting a Mayweather win, but not the way he did. I actually also started to doubt whether he was sure to win the fight when Ortiz pinned him in the corner with a flurry of punches in the fourth round. Then came the headbutt and the cheap shot. Did Mayweather come to a realization that the fight with Ortiz was not going to be an easy one for him, and thus the perceived cheating?

Anyway, a win is a win. But if Ortiz and Mosley can hurt Mayweather, I wonder what Pacquiao can do to him. But I don’t think he’ll ever have the balls to fight the Pacman, anyway, so I don’t think that question will ever be answered.

  • DamnIt says:

The acting was superb. Lots of people are buying this fraudulent act. Easy money for both.

  • Thembelani Mangena says:

That was not no cheap shot. Reverse back and then we can say that was a cheap shot by Ortiz. Even further reverse back Ortiz was being taught a boxing lesson. He was being hit with clean good boxing shots.

Mayweather was way ahead and it was just a matter of time before he finished and chopped Ortiz.
Ortiz before the headbutt was not hitting Mayweather but he was simply displaying pushing to a blind eye seeming like boxing. If he was really boxing him on the ropes why did ne need to use his head. Why play stupid when you are winning that headbutt was a sign of desperation.

This is why people is switching TO MMA…Thank you May for making this a horrible sport to watch!

  • the man says:

Maywheather is a real good figther.. But a real CHAMP will honestly not take a win as cheap as this. And as for him to say he is the best boxer that ever lived?? BS… JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ SR is that person. And as for Paquiao he will ROCK maywheather like the b…. He is!!!!!!!!

  • Tony2kx says:

I’m out some money on the fight, but I dont blame mayweather. I blame the Ref for not doing his job in the ring a refs job is to pay attention at all times not chat with the cornor during a fight of course that would confuse Ortiz. Mayweather gave Ortiz payback, Hell if someone headbutted me I know I wouldn’t forgive him or get over it within a few seconds. As for Floyd and his interview with Larry he did act wrong and should have just walked away from the interview in the first place because he really doesnt give Floyd “a fair shake” and wont till Floyd fights Pacman anyways.

  • toomuchtohandle says:

    To SAX:

The fight is never on, when the ref puts you in the middle of the ring. The ref has to state he is starting the fight again. Read the rule books. He should have never looked away, if he did start the fight again. It just seems too fishy to start the fight, then look away. I mean, what ref does that?

  • toomuchtohandle says:

All we need is Kanye West to get in the ring, steal the mic, and go on to say how Manny is the best fighter in the world!!

  • toomuchtohandle says:

lol, the guy cheated big time. The ref was not even looking at the fighters. Also, the ref did tell Ortiz to take a time out, which he did. How can you not see he used a cheap shot to win the fight. Now he won’t fight manny, because he is scared. Either way it goes, that ref should be reprimanded or fired for not paying attention to the fight. For a second there, I thought I was watching wrestling due to the non-skills from the ref…

  • JP says:

What is the last thing the refs say to the fighters before he tells them to touch gloves? “Protect yourself at all times”. After his blantant cheapshot Ortiz hugged, KISSED, tapped gloves BEFORE he went to the corner. Then tapped gloves again. The clock was RUNNING when he got ko’d. Is may supposed to stop fighting because he got cheapshotted n dude wants to apologize for the 5th time? How quick everyone is to forget WHY the clock was stopped in the first place. Because Ortiz CHEAPSHOTTED mayweather. May was up 3-0 on 2 judges card, and 2-1 on another. round 4 would have been a tie.. Mayweather was winning the fight, and watch the replay in slow mo before the headbutt, and count how many shots actually HIT mayweather. It looked worse then it really was. That was a vet teaching a kid the first rule of boxing. And people, pac was refusing random blood tests for the last couple years. You buy the needle thing? really? May said after 1 fight, I just wana make sure we’re playing on the same playing field. Now that pac has agreed to it, the fight WILL happen. Until then, everyone protect yourself at all times.

  • James says:

Mayweather is a thug and he does no good for the sport as was proven last night also he has no respect for his elders. He will never fight Pacquiao and that alone proves he is not the best pound for pound fighter. And all I got to say about last night un-sportsman cheap shot is that those who fell Mayweather was right are the same bedfellows the devil has!

  • seeL Vicious says:

that fight and postfight interview just showed what kind of a fighter and person floyd is…garbage!

    dont trust ni99ah!

  • Bsure says:

Mayweather hits harder than ortiz headbutts. Never seen a headbutt that intentional.

  • Anonymous says:

Allen, technically what floyd did wasnt illegal meaning he had ever right to continue fighting the fight restarted so he had every right

  • Boxing is a joke says:

For all those who claim to be boxing fans or know everything about boxing and hold floyd as the best fighter ever…..answer one BIG question why is he acting like a groundhog every time he sees pacman’s shadow….

  • Boxing Fan says:

If you look at the fight you will see Ortiz attempted to head butt Mayweather a total of three times during the fight. If you look close you will also see he threw several elbows when exchanging blows with Mayweather. I think Mayweather stood his ground and protected himself. I have to admit, if I was Mayweather and someone head butted me I would properly go after them. I can also say I think all the people who believed Mayweather was wrong would not have had any objections if Mayweather would have lost the fight due to an open cut over his eye caused by the Head butt. Just because Mayweather is winning is no reason to just want anyone to beat him. We should all want good fights from both parties. When someone comes to the table with the right skills and talent, they will beat Mayweather.

  • junn2 says:

    ssshhh…MAYWEATHER VS PACQUIAO!

  • Drex says:

I only know one thing Mayweather is afraid to fight Pacquiao because he know’s he will get the beating of his life. So, Mayweather if you think you are the best fighter in the world make a deal with Pacquiao and fight. If Mayweather doesn’t fight Pacquiao it only means one thing, and that one thing is that he will lose.

  • bert perez says:

it’s obvious its a fixed fight. what ref cortez did after giving sign to re-start time by looking away and talking to ringside counter was the give away.

before, I don’t want to believe the shane-floyd fight was fixed. it’s impossible to see the likes of shane who’s always conditioned and fit even w/o a fight to suddenly lose air by the 3rd or 4th round?

  • Anonymous says:

Ortiz stayed down because he is a quitter.

  • Sax says:

Ortiz was not ready for primetime. He made rookie mistakes and lost his composure. If you’re gonna apologize (and really why would you, if you take a cheap shot own it) why do it three times. Plus once the ref brings you back together the fight is back on. Ortiz was just standing there and mayweather took his shots. I honestly think the first was just an attention getter and when he realized that ortiz wasn’t going to respond he just waylayed on him.

  • Realdeal says:

Two very simple rules that get stated at the begging of every fight, NO head butts. Protect your self at all times. Ortiz broke both them rules. Mayweather wins fair and square. And who tries and butts PBF anyway the one person who did ended up out on his arse.

  • A real boxing fan says:

Its funny how so many people want to portray Floyd as some type of cheater, Floyd did not walk in with a plan to be head butted and to score a knock out during the break up, Ortiz got excited and threw a dirty shot. It wasn’t the first headbutt attemt by Ortiz during the fight. Was Ortiz expecting to get punched when mayweather hit him…no he wasn’t, but that wasnt the fault of Floyd, Ortiz should not have been trying to butt floyd. Everyone says floyd threw cheap shots, It was Ortiz who threw the cheap shot, and then he got hit while trying to play it like he was apologetic(which is why hey was not to upset at the end of the fight, because he knew he caused it)…..Ortiz..can’t cheat to beat a champion…Protect yourself at all times and don’t throw dirty shots…Good display Floyd.

  • junn2 says:

    MAYWEATHER VS PACQUIAO!

  • Bryan says:

It was clear that Cortez and Mayweather were in it together. If anyone was watching the HBO live pre-fight you seen Mayweather kissing Cortez after the Mosley fight, he kissed him 3 times on the head. There was to much of a conntection there. The fight was against Ortiz from the begining. Go look at other fights and you will see that Cortez has been the referee for floyd for so many of his fights. We all seen the same fight and everyone will have their own opinion with the results. We could all clearly see how cortez purposely avoided turning his head, he did not call fight on; if he did he would have brought both fighters together and said fight-on. That did not happen, instead dirty floyd; right behind the back of cortez but in front of the whole world puts ortiz down. Did cortez stop and think about what to do professionally, NO; he was getting paid so he did what he was getting paid to do and he put the 10 count on ortiz. Even when Floyd was being asked by Merchant Floyd did not want to discuss the fight because he is a cheater and he just walked away with another mans belt, he is trying to catch the p4p champ by getting 8 belts; but that is another story. He is a very jealous, selfish, arogant, and honest undereducated individual; do you hear how he talks. Floyd, go take all that money and pay for an education, after all you pay for everything else and that is the real reason you have so many people on your team, if you didn’t have money you wouldn’t have anything; the money, the money. It’s the root of all evil.

Those who understand nothing in boxe, they are braiming ref.why ?Cortez did his job very nice.

  • Donald says:

    Cortez clearly said “Let’s go”

  • Box1ngTalent says:

As a fellow boxer I say that he had every right to hit Ortiz the ref had already broken them up and let them come together to fight after deducting a point from Ortiz, and if that isnt enough there was no question that he headbutted Money May intentionally, In closing PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!!!

  • zdrx says:

is the second act of apology by ortiz, necessary?…. NO!
did floyd committed foul for that KO?…. NO!

BUT FLOYD TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ORTIZ’S INEXPERIENCE. THAT’S THE REASON FLOYD PICKED GREENHORN ORTIZ…TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS IGNORANCE.

but what about another angle being floated around? THAT THIS FIGHT IS FIXED…THAT ORTIZ CHOSE TO STAY DOWN (and count his money) THAN CONTINUE THE CHARADE?

  • Bill from NY says:

Of course Floyd Mayweather did the DIS-HONORABLE thing. He’s disrespectful. He humiliated his father on world-wide tv. Flaunted his wealth to the troops who are fighting for peanuts. Argued with Larry Merchant instead of explaining his actions. Has six legal actions against him. He’s nothing, I don’t care how many wins he has. He’ll probably bring a gun to his next match.

  • junn2 says:

SHUT UP EVERYONE! there is one thing that we can all agree, as a boxing fan, we are all prostrated, all we want is MAY vs PAC. let us use OUR POWER to make it happen, it is OUR MONEY that make fights. from now on, on ALL sports web, we only write on comment- “MAYWEATHER vs PACQUIAO” *if you don’t, then you are one reason why it won’t happen!

  • Cookiman says:

For all you PBF haters … get over it!!! Ortiz fouled and Mayweather didn’t. Ortiz was self-inflicted by excessive apologies and violating the universal rule of “Protect yourself at all times.” He broke down mentally and would face the inevitable as the fight progressed. After PacMan finally agrees to take olympic-style drug testing, PacMan will taste the same next year, and you PBF haters will continue to hate and complain.

  • Arbiter says:

Of course, the Mayweather fans are elated. They can see no wrong in what their boy did. But, did you ever wonder if the reverse had happened? Do you think Ortiz would be really appreciated instead of penalized? Of course not, Mayweather is the biggest -cash cow of boxing and his fights seemed to be more stage-managed each time he fights. He belongs to the WWE.

    blog poster is right.

The senile ref did not restart the fight properly. The fool had his hand between the two fighters and senility allowed it to be moved away to communicate to a judge. Did anyone hear him do what is normal and clearly indicate the fight was to restart?

Mayweather knew this but still took the cheap shots.
Ortiz knew this too but kept quite so he could get another payday.

Yes, I did watch the fight.

Low blows can directly win a fight too technically be legal. Do you think that that makes it right?

De La Hoya’s first loss was for a fight he technically won but was handed a loss due to his bad sportsmanship.

Just because something is technically right does not make it right. Mayweather ripped off boxing fans that payed for the fight (so did the fool of a ref).

  • Needle Scare says:

All these Floyd haters, blinded by hate and incredibly ignorant of the sport can excuse everything including cheating with PEDS. Amazing how they can tolerate and even worship someone who does nothing to come clean with public and still want to lecture others on the ethics of boxing. Amazing……

Yeah..what a combination!..to an unguarded opponent (whose only intention is to say sorry)..even amateurs can do that..and Ortiz..he should be a priest..after what mayweather did to him..he managed to smile about it without any regrets on his face..STAGED..maybe..mayweather is a promoter now right?

  • David says:

Joe Cortez clearly says “Time In” and Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz touched gloves all before Floyd Mayweather knocked Victor Ortiz out. It isn’t really the fault of Floyd Mayweather that Victor Ortiz was still trying to hug him after the referee said time in and the gloves had been touched to resume the fight. Either way it wouldn’t have mattered as Floyd Mayweather was dominating the fight and it was clear that there was no ring rust at all so the fight would have probably only lasted until the 10th at best anyway.

  • allan says:

i, like most boxing fans, was disapointed with the fight ending in such a manner. I remember larry holmes looking at the refree to hopefully stop the beating he was administering on mohammed ali and actually holding back on his punches to not hurt a defenless fighter. Manny did the same in the latter rounds when he fought Margarito. Their body language send a clear message that the fight sould be stopped to prevent permanent damage to their opponent. It is called good sportmanship and even though the sport, by its nature , is brutal, there are professional rules of conduct governing the conduct of the participants.
The hold appeal of boxing is to see two men( and women) duke it out to determine supremency, who is the better fighter.

What I, as a boxing hard core fan would like to see happen in the future, is for some kind of appeal commission be established to change or reverse official results when there are controversial and disputed decisions. These profesional fighters literally put their lives on the line every time they step into a boxing ring providing entertainment for their fans and therefore deserve a fair shake in their efforts. With technology available these days, it is not difficult to review a fight frame by frame and render a verdict. Many great boxers have been literally robbed of their lively hood by incompetant refrees, judges, promotors, etc.

There are rampant rumors that many boxing matches are fixed in favour of the drawing card. That rumor can be put to rest with better refrees, judges, and honest promotors. Here is where a review commision with power to reverse any perceived unfair desision can be instrumental in bringing about these changes for the benefit of the sport. Boxing, like baseball and so many other sports is here to stay and should therefore be regulated.

If you feel as I do, as an avid boxing fan, then let us keep up the pressure on the boxing commissions for change to the curent situation.

    Just a humble opinion

having watched the fight between mayweather and ortiz, they both fouled each other. Ortiz blatently head butted FM which he over apoligzed for resulting in his ko. He wanted to portray good sportsmanship but forgot one of the cardinal rules in boxing” protect your self at all times.” With his hands down and it was clear he was still in the apolegetic frame of mind for that brief moment, he was koed. Either he did not hear Cortez command to box, or was hoping for a more physical signal from cortez to resume action, FM should not have attacked a a man whose hands were basically tied when he was tagged. FM hit ortiz with the first punch while his hands were not in a defensive mode and then hit him again while his hands were still down. The ko win for fm will be tainted.

Good on Floyd for knocking out Ortiz the way he did. In the 4 short rounds of the fight , it was clearly evident that Ortiz was way out of Floyd’s league. Having already taken the NO MAS escape route in the Maidana fight, Ortiz resorted to headbutting this time when faced with adversity. Prove your greatness again now Floyd by fighting Manny. Enough of these overhyped B grade fighters. At least you know Pacquiao will go out on his shield

i think the fight was already sold. both of them knew the ending of it… first of all… it’s Mayweather’s style to take a cheap shot like that… 2nd, referee joe cortez always halts the fight everytime Ortiz attacks Mayweather in the corner. Can’t you see that, that headbutt was unintentional though cortez went for a deduction already and didn’t even gave any warning at all… third and not the least, Ortiz, that was dumb acting. he is already tagged not even once in the fight for four rounds. yet a one-two without any full force knock him like that. you can see his eyes, his conscious. AND he was laughing all the way. why won’t he complain, and even the corner didn’t say anything… I’m on Mayweather on this fight. He owns Ortiz from round one. but in round four, when Mayweather was cornered, i saw that he has a chance… damn.. what a way to end the fight. they were toe to toe fighting just like FMJ said. sorry for those who bought PPV and VIP tickets for that one… and i d0n’t think FMJ will fight Manny for that… Fight was sold…

  • lee says:

    mayweather is scvm

  • lee says:

They took a point away from ortiz with is fear, mayweather should have been disqualified and the ref sacked…………..

  • J.T says:

Well the deal is if Mayweather is a
a big earner …it’s kind of reminds
Of Roy jones jr vs Montell griffin many
Years ago… Except griffin was on the
Canvas, Jones hit him when he was down
    Jones was DQ’d
Look Floyd did it to gain a advantage …
But this is fighting people!!! …It’s War
    In there… Everyone thinks boxing
Is like turning on a Tv… It’s hard in
    There!!

  • Laurie says:

I agree with CINNAMON BOY. These actions are no good for boxing.

  • jarius92 says:

REMATCH, everyone knows Ortiz was winning rounds 3 and 4 and coming on strong, floyd was looking vulnerable and weak.

Floyd always has to cheat one way or
    another to win.

  • LexLuger305 says:

Cortez told them to continue fighting. Please actually watch the fight before making comments.

Cortez mistake was talking to the timekeeper after he told the fighters to continue. Ortiz is to blame for being a quitter and that is exactly what he did. Quit.

  • sPyMe says:

    Fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Scott says:

    @Akira

Cortez didnt call to fight again, Cortez didn’t have a bloody clue what was happening, he picked up the count at 4 from the ringside official who jumped up when Ortiz hit the floor. Cortez was at fault for not being in control, Mayweather shouldn’t have thrown a punch until Cortez called the fight to start again and Ortiz had no reason to defend himself because, as far as the pro rules go, the fight was not on!!!! Disgraceful show, complete shambles, rematch needed

  • Dave Lahr says:

very big difference between pac and floyd:

when margarito seemed defenseless, pac halted the attack and even asked the referee to stop the fight to spare antonio from further harm and gave antonio some time to breath and regain strength

but when ortiz was defenseless and apologizing for the headbutt, floyd attack which drop ortiz

…even the floydiots knew which is the cowardly act between these two incidents!

  • Dave Lahr says:

floyd’s new motto: PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!

that’s why he won’t be fighting manny pacquiao

  • akira says:

people are just using this as yet another excuse to hate on floyd. ORTIZ HEADBUTTED MAYWEATHER, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. FLOYD DIDNT HAVE TO TOUCH GLOVES OR HUG OR KISS BUT HE DID ALL THREE AND THEN WHEN HE WAS TOLD TO FIGHT HE DID JUST THAT? PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!

  • rickyboy says:

TRASH FIGHT! MAYWEATHER AND ORTIZ BRING BACK OUR MONEY! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  • Well... says:

Ortiz basically gave mayweather an open shot, and only someone stupid wouldn’t take such an opportunity, that’s all it was, an opportunity for floyd and he took it.

  • Dazza says:

ive just watched it again and cortez says box then ortiz hugs him again then mayweather decks him. it was abit of a cheap shot but it was perfectly legal.

  • rickyboy says:

TRASH FIGHT! MAYWEATHER AND ORTIZ BRING BACK OUR MONEY!

  • boxing fan says:

twas clearly a fixed!floyd change his stance for coming in offensively!
    and punching at will…
ortiz on the on hand backing off and become defensive one!
thirdly, cortez did control the fight for floyd’s favor, deducting point on 1st offence!not properly breaking up the fighter and looking at the committe to decide if it was legitimate ko or not
    what the hell was that!

  • Fan says:

blame lies on ortiz for not protecting himself after they touched gloves its box on.cortez was too slow to ref this fight and blame lies on him also, the shot looked cheap but was legal.shame it had to end that way

  • TomJoe says:

If you watched it properly… You’d know the ref said “Box on.” It’s Ortiz’s own fault. Not Mayweather’s.

  • LexLuger305 says:

lol… This writer is a joke. Probably didn’t even watch the fight live.

Ortiz didn’t headbutt him, he rammed him like a battering ram with his head!! And after he did it he wanted to hug and kiss on 3 different occasions. After the ref told them to continue he again came to floyd hugging and kissing and floyd knocked him out.

This was Ortiz’s way of quiting once again a fight he could not handle. Floyd hit him with a hook and he just stood there waiting for the follow through, even floyd was suprised he didn’t put his hands up. All those who do not know boxing may think that it was a cheap shot. What was floyd to do after getting head butted? Stand there with his hands down too and wait for Ortiz to stop kissing him after the ref told them to continue boxing?

  • 710 says:

    @Don’t Test Me, Bro…

My man, I bet 8 out of 10 Filipinos would take you out – on the street or in the ring. Watch yourself.

  • Nayal says:

ALEX FOX YOU A FOOL…. Two wrongs don’t make a right? Mayweather did no wrong… Start of round 4, bell rings, ref says game on… ortiz want to shake, Mayweather shakes, ortiz wants a kiss… Mayweather knocks him out…. What’s wrong with that? Ortiz has already apologised 2 times, and Mayweather accepted 2 times…. how many times does he need to accept? BELL HAS RUNG… ITS FIGHT TIME… KEEPS THE HUGS AND KISSES FOR LATER… EVERYTHING FAIR…. PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES…. ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD THINK MAYWEATHER DID SOMETHING UNTOWARDLY…. IF YOU WANT NICENESS – GO WRITE ABOUT TENNIS.

  • Hear's The Thing says:

The funny thing about the stupidity of Floyd’s fans is that they actually believe Floyd all of a sudden has knockout power like Mike Tyson as a result of this win. LOL

  • Bern says:

It’s easy when your opponent is off guard. If we allow this kind of thing to happen then we might as well allow PED’s into the sport, but even that would be more honourable as at least both parties would have an equal playing field.

  • Hear's The Thing says:

Did y’all see Floyd cryin’ like a b1tch on his interview with Larry Merchant, talkin about he never gets respect?! LOL

    Priceless.

  • doc g says:

saw the tape it was clearly an unsportmanlike oonduct on the part of floyd. should be ashame of himself considering a hall of famer. he must set example to upcoming fighers.

  • Ex Naz Fan says:

Mayweather would take Manny out by the 7th, coldturkey willbe on the menu.

  • Hear's The Thing says:

@Ben…you are actually impressed by Floyd KO’ing a defenseless victim and think that was an unbelievable combination?! LMFAO

I feel bad for you dawg.

  • robotronic says:

you want floyd to win so bad it has definitely warped your sense of reality there wade. never did the ref say touch em up and box, perhaps you are fantasizing or you are delusional.

  • Giuseppe Garibaldi says:

    Cheap piece of writing.

  • aaa says:

When ortiz headbutted floyds elbow was up and cortez nothing

  • wade says:

The ref said box. It’s not Floyds fault Ortiz decided to attempt to appologize a second time. Some of you want Floyd to loose so bad that it affects your sense of reality. Grow up children.

  • badong says:

the boxing commission should investigate what happened.. mayweather should have been disqualified outright,, he did it in cowardly manner..though he is ahead in three rounds the referee should have declared ortiz a winner instead of counting ortiz out..this win of mayweather was a very dirty, dirty , dirty one..

  • balda says:

this the reason why boxing is a dying sport

  • jav says:

What would have happened to Ortiz if it was the other way round? I wonder… Ok, Ortiz made a silly mistake out of frustration, anger, whatever. True. And got a point taken off. Fair enough but what Floyd did was just plain cheating, unsportsmanlike, and that was even more stupid because he didn’t even need to play such a dirty trick. And Cortez did’nt say box either; is that so hard to realise?
I say it was a big payday for Cortez.

  • MKespn says:

This is a huge black eye on the world of boxing. Floyd is not worthy of being in the ring with Pacquiao. Floyd’s performance tonight makes me uninterested to see him ever fight again,

  • WTF Floydiots says:

Floydie is now the Elbow King and uses every dirty tricks in the book to win.

    Floydie is truly the GOAT

    GREATEST OF ALL TRICKSTER

  • adeindo says:

yup’s win is win but win with gentle fight aproximately always no 1….pacquaio is gentle fighter….he trully fighter, he dosnt want to win like what myaweather do it…

  • Observer says:

the commission should investigate on this fraud event.
floyd, victor and joe should be ban in boxing!

  • GEE says:

I could be aged 55 years old & be banging a 16 year old straight out of school…LEGALLY there’s nothing wrong; morally IT IS WRONG.

Same scenario can be applied to this fight…end of.

  • PauL 24 says:

not an honorable win for floyd. but yah he won… just fight pacquiao and well see if he can last 12 rounds.

  • dave says:

Great absolutely fantastic, how good is Mayweather. Manny will keep on avoiding Floyd make no bones about it.

  • fujiwara 1062 says:

FLLOYDIOTS ARE RIGHT…..MAYWEATHER IS GREATEST BOXER OF ALL GREATS!

HE IS THE ONLY ONE….GREAT….COWARD…USING ELBOW…CHEAP SHOTS…AND REFEREE TO SECURE HIS LEGACY….BRAVO!!!
AMERICANS NEVER PLAYED FAIR AND SQUARE THEY ARE ALL CHEATERS LIKE WHAT THEIR GOVERNMENT…PEACEKEEPERS OR TERRORISTS.
AMERICANS ARE THE NO.1 TERRORISTS IN THE WORLD.

  • Ben says:

Great natrual instinct and reactions from Floyd Mayweather, what a knock out. Absolutely top draw. As soon as the gloves are touched fight is on, bang bang Ortiz is knocked out. Fantastic what a combination.

  • Dr.P says:

Agreed sean. Ortiz deserved what he got. We all would of done what floyd did.

  • big dog says:

they touched gloves. the fight is on. it’s pretty simple.

  • Sean says:

Cortez clearly says box on, mayweather approaches Ortiz with his guard up. Ortiz then attempts to hug mayweather, and gets knocked out, it’s his own fault. Protect yourself at all times

  • Anonymous says:

Terrible decision, I hope Joe Cortez never referees a big fight again.

As for Larry Merchant .. TAKE THE TEST LARRY!

  • bigdan says:

The mayweather cortez team works again surprise surprise.

  • Mark says:

Its a bad fight. The referee must be suspended Ortiz must win for that fight.

  • CINNAMON BOY says:

Everyone can say Ortiz this… Mayweather that… the truth is that both fighters did terrible mistakes, for me it doesnt matter who did worst, the important thing is that these kind of things ARE HURTING BOXING!!!!
