Robert Guerrero’s shoulder surgery a success, Doctor thinks he’ll make a complete recovery
By William Mackay: Former two division world champion Robert Guerrero’s shoulder surgery was a success to repair his torn left rotator cuff ligament, according to publicist Mario Serrano. The prognosis is that it’s going to take four to six months for Guerrero to get back in the ring.
However, there’s really no telling how well Guerrero’s shoulder will recover from this injury because it’s a serious one and this is his main power shoulder. To be sure, Guerrero can likely be successful even if he doesn’t regain all of the power he once had in the shoulder, but he’s going to be limited in what he can do at light welterweight if he’s not able to punch with power.
Guerrero wasn’t looking very powerful even at lightweight, and at light welterweight he could be at a huge disadvantage if he’s unable to regain all of the strength he once had. We’ve seen fighters like Jeff Lacy fail to gain the power he once had in his left hook after suffering a torn rotator cuff. I imagine his doctor also felt positive about him regaining full strength in his shoulder.
Guerrero is going to have to pray that he can find enough power in the shoulder for him to be a factor at light welterweight. Guerrero injured his shoulder on August 17th while sparring to get ready for a previously scheduled August 27th fight against Marcos Maidana. The injury prevented that fight from going ahead.

He will make a good comeback. I am in the similar situation as him but I compete in Olympic weightlifting.
Also a UFC fighter has been release from the doctor to begin training after his rotator cuff surgery, and to the critics out there, you go thru the same type of surgery and recovery and you will be speaking a different tune. The rehab pain is the worst thing anybody would want to go thru.
Guerrero is one of boxings good guys the sport needs this guy.
cant wait for him to come back!
I doubt it, rotator cuff injuries never heal ‘completely’, at least in the sense that you’re as functionally good as you were before. That and they have a higher probability of re-injury. I would not be surprised to see Guerrero hurt again within a year or two, considering the sport.
