Image: Fury looking elsewhere after 40-year-old Rogan rejects offerBy Sean McDaniel: If unbeaten British and Commonwealth champion Tyson Fury (15-0, 10 KO’s) wants a fight against 40-year-old former Prizefighter tourney winner Martin Rogan, Fury’s management is going to have to give Rogan a better offer. Rogan rejected an offer made to him this week for a fight for the Irish heavyweight title.

It’s unlikely that Fury and his promoter Mick Hennessey will made any additional offers to get Rogan for Fury’s next fight on September 17th in Belfast. Given that there’s a little more than a month to go before that you can’t really expect much. Of course, Fury wasn’t aiming high to begin with by choosing Rogan to fight instead of a world class contender.

It was thought Fury would continue to fight top heavyweights after his recent lopsided 12 round unanimous decision win over Dereck Chisora to capture both the British and Commonwealth titles, but it looks like Fury is interested in taking things slow against B and C level heavyweights for a while longer.

If Rogan not wanting the fight wasn’t bad enough, Fury’s second choice, unbeaten Canadian heavyweight champion Neven Pajkic (16-0, 5 KO’s), has also rejected an offer to fight Fury, according to boxing news from Sky Sports. This is a sign that Fury and his management team need to consider raising their offers or else step it up against a higher class of fighter.

Fury wants to fight one of the Klitschkos in the future and is hoping to get some fights under him before he does it. But at this rate of fighters turning him down, he’s never going to get to the point where he’s good enough to compete with the Klitschkos. He can’t be lowering the bar for opposition and expect to improve.
