Prichard “Digget” Colón: New Kid On The Block

By Gordon Bell: If you haven’t heard the name or had the pleasure of seeing him fight, there is a new name to watch for at 147. His name is Prichard “Digget” Colón. He’s 21 years old, 6 feet tall, and a five times Puerto Rican, national amateur champion.

Managed by adviser Al Haymon, He’s a Puerto Rican fighter with a record of 11-o with 10 KOs. He’s fought mainly in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. He turned pro last February, and fought Carlos Garcia on the undercard of the Danny Garcia- Mauricio Herrera fight this past June, stopping Garcia in five rounds. It was the most rounds he’s been forced to go in a pro fight at that time.

His family are good friends with “Tito’ Felix Trinidad’s family for the past 21 years, and he  is “Tito’s protoege’ who attended the aforementioned fight. The unbeaten knockout artist is said to perfectly emulate Tito’s style. Although he can make 154 easily, Prichard Colón Plans To campaign at the Welterweight limit.

Prichard is coached by his father Richard Colón. Prichard Colón has been added once again to a Danny Garcia bout, and will fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, august 9th. I was lucky enough to catch the Garcia-Colón’ fight, and he in my opinion, the real deal, dynamic, fast, powerful and a pleasure to watch, I see big things for this kid, all welters at 147, beware. This kid looks dangerous, and although the Garcia-Salka bout might now arouse much interest, I would strongly suggest checking out Prichard Colon’s bout.

An opponent hasn’t been name as yet, but he will be well worth watching. Colón is currently in Las Vegas, in support of  fellow boxer Jonathan Oquendo, who faces Abner Mares this weekend. Recently Prichard Colon (11-0, 10 KOs) was forced to go the distance for the first time as a pro, outpointing Washington, D.C.’s Lenwood Dozier (9-7-1, 4 KOs) over six rounds in a junior middleweight bout.

Obviously they are bringing along  this young up and comer slowly, but I foresee him fighting the big boys within 6 to 10  months. Hopefully a Colón-Thurman fight is a fight that one day, can be negotiated, since both are managed by Haymon, and would be a fantastic fight. It”s just one of many match-ups that I’m sure after seeing this kid move up in opponents, people will be clamouring to see.  I seriously believe this kid could more than hold his own against Thurman and most of the top welterweights,  in the not too distant future.
