Chisora-Klitschko: Couldnt Vitali find someone better than Chisora to fight?

Image: Chisora-Klitschko: Couldnt Vitali find someone better than Chisora to fight?By Mark Bilton: This is my first article and I am surprising myself on whom and what I am writing it on! Looking at recent events most people are writing on the Khan v Peterson fight or waiting for the Froch v Ward final of the Super Six. I thought I would steer clear from the band wagon and comment on something different.

I am not a huge fan of the Heavyweight division to be honest. Once a division is ruled by a dominant yet uninspiring force such the Klitschko’s who, at no fault of their own, have next to no real competition, the division will inadvertently lose its lustre.

Following on from that, I am puzzled as to why World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko is fighting British Heavyweight Dereck Chisora?

As I have said, there is next to no real competition for either Klitschko but surely Vitali could find a heavyweight to fight who is superior to and offers a bigger challenge than Chisora?

Chisora is coming off two losses (admittedly one being highly controversial) and now he has a shot at WBC World Title?

Now, we all know that the world of boxing can be a ruthless sport and some fights are made that are always going to be one sided. It’s clear to every boxing expert and ‘Joe public’ alike that this is one of those fights. Chisora does not deserve a world title shot and he cannot compete at that level so how and why is this happening? The only person who will not question it is Del Boy himself.

So, who would provide a more thrilling fight? David Haye is an obvious choice as he is waiting in the wings to avenge he’s loss and retire (again) but on a win, European Heavyweight Champion Robert Helenius kept he’s title against Chisora. He has the size to match Vitali and could possibly put up a half decent fight, personally, I think the likes of British Heavyweight Chris Price would offer more of a challenge than Chisora! I’m sure there are others based in America etc as well.

Either way, my personal opinion is that this fight shouldn’t be happening. Frank Warren must be a smooth and impressive miracle worker/business man who has 100% belief in this British Heavyweight, however misplaced it maybe. The Heavyweight division is clearly struggling more than anyone anticipated for this fight to have been sanctioned.

As a fight fan I would watch it, but I think it’s safe to say we all know the result.
