Alexander vs. Bailey added to the Garcia-Morales 2 card on October 20th

By Jim Dower: The October 20th Barclays fight card just got a little better with the addition of the title fight between IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey (43-7, 37 KO’s) defending his belt against former IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (23-1, 13 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight card, which will be televised on Showtime, now has an incredible four title fights on it. That’s a real rarity nowadays, and the best part of all is that it’s non-pay per view. It’s not hard to see why it’s not, because none of these guys on the card are legitimate stars are close to it.

Here’s all the fights on the card:

WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia vs. Erik Morales
WBA welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi vs. Pablo Cesar Cano
WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam vs. Peter Quillin
Dmitriy Salita vs. TBA
Boyd Melson vs. Yolexcy Leiva
Eddie Gomez vs. TBA
Daniel Jacobs vs. TBA
Luis Collazo vs. TBA

The Bailey-Alexander fight has the potential to be a good fight, but I’m not really expecting it to be. Alexander, a fighter that tends to do a lot of clinching, just proved in his last fight against Marcos Maidana that he’s capable of playing it safe when facing punchers by clinching constantly. Alexander clinched Maidana over 10 times per round last February in beating him by a 10 round decision.

With Alexander now facing an even harder puncher than Maidana in Randall Bailey, you’ve got to expect that Alexander will go back to clinching even more in this fight making it a potentially dreadful fight to watch.

Additionally, Bailey isn’t one of the busier welterweight champions you’ll ever see, so I’d be surprised if he throws more than 20 punches per round if that. Bailey will be looking for an opening to throw one big punch all night long against Alexander and he’s not going to waste a lot of shots in between the bombs.
