Randall Bailey talks about his upcoming Korean adventure

unnamedBy Ian Aldous: Randall ‘The Knockout King’ Bailey (45-8) is about to embark on another chapter of his career at the grand age of forty. He’s set to fight in South Korea on October 4th after signing an exclusive promotional contract with Andy Kim and his South-Korean based, AK Promotions. His opponent and a venue are yet to be announced. Last week he took some time to talk with me over the phone after a day of training.

Bailey is a veteran of the game and has fought in Canada, Puerto Rico and multiple times on European soil, so fighting away from home is something he’s certainly not afraid of. But the idea of traveling and competing in Asia is something we see very few Stateside pugilists take on. It was something that Bailey couldn’t wait to do. “Well, my manager (Si Stern) had been telling me that he’d been working on it for a while and it was just a matter of time before Andy (AK Promotions) and my manager came up with a significant game plan and I was all aboard!” He continued “I’m very excited and looking forward to coming out there.”

In the original press release, Andy Kim showed himself to be delighted with his newest signing. “Bailey will be an instant attraction here locally with his style of fighting and having been a two-division world champion, it won’t be long before he is contending once again for a world title.”

Alexander decisions Bailey in dull fight

Image: Alexander decisions Bailey in dull fightBy Jim Dower: In a disappointing performance from both fighters, Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) easily defeated a gun-shy IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey (43-8, 37 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night to capture the 38-year-old Bailey’s International Boxing Federation title at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The final judges’ scores were 115-111, 116-110 and 117-109, all for Alexander.

There was little action in the fight apart from Alexander’s jabs and occasional left hands. Bailey spent most of the fight looking to land his big right hands. He did land some hard rights in the first five rounds, but he wasn’t throwing enough of them to hurt Alexander. The crowd booed the fight for all 12 rounds, and unfortunately this did little to get the two fighters to let their hands go.

Alexander-Bailey: Devon likely to clinch often tonight

Image: Alexander-Bailey: Devon likely to clinch often tonight(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (23-1, 13 KO’s) will be facing the biggest puncher in the division in IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey (43-7, 37 KO’s) tonight at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. This is a big test for Alexander, who is fighting for the second time in the welterweight division after having beaten Marcos Maidana in an ugly to watch fight last February.

Alexander won that fight by a 10 round unanimous decision but much of the success for that victory for Alexander came from his constant clinching that he was able to get away with. Referees normally draw a line for the amount of clinching at around 10 clinches per round, but Alexander was able to get away with even more than that in beating Maidana. Referee Steve Smoger never stepped in to give Alexander warnings for grabbing constantly, and this resulted in the fight deteriorating into an ugly punch and grab affair that was horrible to watch.

Malignaggi-Cano, N’Jikam-Quillin, Alexander-Bailey on October 20th

By Sean McDaniel: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (41-4, 7 KO’s) must be feeling a little of pressure as he goes into his fight next month against the young 22-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. It’s a fight where Golden Boy Promotions has put the 31-year-old Malignaggi in a good position for success by selecting a light welterweight contender for him to fight instead of one of the dangerous welterweight contenders that are looking to fight Malignaggi to get a chance to take his title.

All Alexander has to do is make sure that he clinches enough to keep Bailey from getting off his shots, and he’ll be in a great position to win the fight.
