Robert Guerrero needs a new trainer badly

guerrero5By Scott Gilfoid: In watching Robert Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KO’s) go life and death with a fringe level contender in Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KO’s) last night, I think I speak for everyone here when I say he needs to think seriously about dumping his current trainer Ruben Guerrero and find a real trainer that can improve his game.

It was just awful to watch Guerrero getting beaten up by a guy who arguably shouldn’t be ranked in the top tier if the welterweight division’s talent wasn’t watered down by 4 sanctioning bodies.

Robert Guerrero: I want to get back in the Mayweather picture

guerrero01By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) will be back in the ring this Saturday night to face little known #7 IBF, #13 WBC Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) in a tune-up fight on Showtime at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA. Guerrero lost his last fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr last year in May in a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight was so one-sided it was the kind of match where you would think that there’s no way on earth that the two fighters will face each other again, but Guerrero said earlier today that he’s looking to get back in the Mayweather picture. He feels that he can get be one of Mayweather’s last remaining fight before he retires.

Robert Guerrero vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai & Devon Alexander vs. Jesus Soto Karass on 6/21 on Showtime

guerrero211By Dan Ambrose: The undercasrd of the June 21st fight between Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Gary Russell Jr. will have two fights that could wind up being far better fights than that one in welterweight Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) fighting slugger Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) and former two division world champion Devon Alexander (25-2, 14 KO’s) fighting Jesus Soto Karass (28-9-3, 18 KO’s) in a 50/50 fight on Showtime at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Guerrero has done nothing since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May. Golden Boy Promotions were interested in matching Guerrero up with Keith Thurman, but he chose not to take that fight. They had other options for him in addition to Thurman, but Guerrero opted not to take any of those fights. He wanted a rematch against Mayweather, but Mayweather wasn’t interested in fighting him again due to their fight not being a competitive one. Their fight didn’t bring in huge pay-per-view numbers either.

Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai on June 21st on Lomachenko-Russell Jr card

guerrero112By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) will finally be returning to the ring on June 21st to fight 31-year-old #7 IBF, #14 WBC Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) at a still to be determined venue on the undercard of the Gary Russell Jr. vs. Vasyl Lomachenko fight. Guerrero, 31, has burned up a year of his career sitting idle after his one-sided 12 round unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May.

Guerrero was hoping to get a rematch against Mayweather, but he was ignored by him. The fight was too one-sided for Mayweather to waste time fighting Guerrero, #9 WBO, #11 WBC, a second time, and besides that the pay-per-view numbers weren’t big enough to encourage Mayweather to give Guerrero another shot.
