Arreola not retiring, wants Eric Molina

Image: Arreola not retiring, wants Eric Molina

By Dan Ambrose: Chris Arreola (36-5-1, 31 KOs) met with defeat last Saturday night in getting stopped by WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) in a failed world title shot on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Arreola was halted in the 8th round after his corner had the fight stopped after the round had ended. It was the type of performance where you can argue that the 35-year-old Arreola should retire rather than continue his career.

However, Arreola says he won’t be retiring. He wants a rematch with #12 WBC Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs), who he stopped in the 1st round four years ago in 2012. Arreola says that Molina has been talking trash about him, and gave him some grief about his loss to Wilder by calling him a quitter.

Image: Deontay Wilder will require two surgeries

By Jeff Aranow: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s eighth round stoppage win over Chris Arreola last Saturday was a costly one for the Bronze Bomber, as he suffered a torn right biceps and a broken hand in the fight. Both injuries will require surgeries to repair the problems.

Wilder will need two surgeries after the victory. According to Wilder’s co-manager Jay Deas, he’ll have surgery on his broken right hand first. This is the same hand that Wilder had surgery on last year after breaking it in his 12 round decision win over Bermane Stiverne in January 2015.

Wilder: Of course I want Fury and Joshua

1-Deontay Wilder vs Chris Arreola - July 16_ 2016_Fight_Ryan Hafey _ Premier Boxing Champions (12)

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) did his job last Saturday night in turning back the threat from the powerful Chris Arreola (36-5-1, 31 KOs) in stopping him after round eight after his corner pulled the plug on the fight at the beautiful Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wilder said after the fight that he wants the British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Wilder wants to take their heavyweight title straps from both of them. Wilder, 6’7”, says he’s not sure if they want him. Well, given the fact that neither of them never seem to bring up Wilder’s name in conversation, I’d say that they have no interest in sharing the ring with the lightning fast Alabama native.

Purses: Wilder $1.4M, Arreola $150K, Vasquez $225K, Diaz $125K

1-Wilder vs Arreola - Weigh-ins_Weigh-in_Ryan Hafey _ Premier Boxing Champions (3)

By Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will be getting the lion’s shape of the money for Saturday’s fight card at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Wilder’s purse for his title defense against 35-year-old Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) will be $1.4 million. Arreola will be getting just $150,000, which is not much for a challenger at the heavyweight level.

You can make an argument that Wilder should be getting more than $1.4M for his fights at this point in his career. When you see fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao getting huge paydays for their fights, Wilder should be getting big money too. Unfortunately, the heavyweight division isn’t a popular one in the United States.

Wilder vs. Arreola: Deontay not worried about Chris’ pressure

arreola-wilder (9)

By Allan Fox: Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) is going to need a good pair of wheels this Saturday night if he wants to catch up to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) this Saturday night, because Wilder says he plans on being mobile in this fight to negate the pressure. Arreola and Wilder will be fighting on July 16 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Arreola has talked about wanting to get inside Wilder’s punching range so that he can keep him from getting the maximum power on his shots. Wilder says he doesn’t mind the pressure that Arreola will be putting on him because he likes the challenge of fighting pressure fighters, and he’s going to be looking to keep Arreola bottled up.
