Provodnikov battles Molina on 6/11 in Verona, New York

Image: Provodnikov battles Molina on 6/11 in Verona, New YorkBy Chris Williams: It looks like Top Rank promoter Bob Arum struck out in his attempts at getting former WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18 KOs) to fight his guy WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford for July.

Instead of Provodnikov taking that fight, he’ll be facing lightweight slugger John Molina (28-6, 23 KOs) on June 11 in a fight televised by Showtime Boxing from the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. This is a pretty evenly matched fight with two guys that are both struggling badly with their careers.

Terence Crawford vs. Ruslan Provodnikov targeted for July 23

provodnikov63By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is working on a fight between his fighter WBO light welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) and #2 WBO Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18 KOs) that he’s working on for July 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Provodnikov’s management are interested in the fight, but they had one condition and that was for it not to take place in the 28-year-old Crawford’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. However, with the fight not taking place in that location, it’s unknown if they’ll be able to sell any tickets.

Crawford isn’t exactly a big name in southern California, and unless Arum loads up the undercard with local fighters, it’s doubtful they’ll be able to sell any tickets for the fight. Provodnikov, a Russian fighter, isn’t a big name in Southern or Northern California.

Arum is targeting the Crawford-Provodnikov fight for June or July at the Forum in Inglewood, California, according to Dan Rafael. Arum is also interested in matching Crawford against WBA light welterweight champion Adrien Broner in a unification fight, but that obviously isn’t going to happen, given that Broner is with manager Al Haymon.

Provodnikov-Herrera2: The Rematch Nobody is Talking About:

provodnikov034By Nate Estrada: Often when we watch boxing, our expectations are more than seeing a good fight. Some of us want to see a slugfest, a KO or a great comeback. Sometimes we get them, sometimes we don’t. Then there are times when we see something great and don’t even know it. Like that time Mauricio Herrera (21-5-0, 7 KOs) fought Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4-0, 18 KOs).

It’ll almost be 5 years since Herrera and Provodnikov got into that war on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” in January of 2011. The fight turned out to be a slugfest while both boxers displayed boxing skills and will from start to finish. Also at the time, they weren’t as popular as they are today. If you saw their fight that night, hopefully they won your attention with their brutal match and made fight fans want to see more. A rematch.

We got an unexpected slugfest the first time around, think about what we’ll get the next time? Both fighters had over 800 punches thrown in the fight, leaving a statement on each other’s faces.
