MMA showed it has a lot to learn from boxing, with Ronda Rousey come-back fight

By Matthias Predonzan: When I first heard about Ronda Rousey, it was when she was calling out Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a fight. I genuinely believed she was a male fighter. Then I discovered she is an MMA female star and gradually, I became a bit familiar with the sport. I do not know much about MMA. Coming from boxing, I cannot understand the complexity of all the martial arts involved in this specialty and I do not like the way MMA fighters box.

As a boxing fan, I enjoyed watching Ronda Rousey lose

rousey3by Kirk Jackson: Much to the pleasure of many and to the chagrin of a few others, notable mixed martial arts super star Ronda Rousey suffered her first professional defeat this past weekend.

Rousey was dominated in route to a 2nd round TKO stoppage by former world champion boxer and newly crowned UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm.

Mayweather comments on Ronda Rousey’s loss – “You win some you lose some”

1-009_Floyd_MayweatherBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. refused to gloat over former UFC Women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s 2nd round knockout loss last Saturday night to former female boxing star Holly Holm in UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia.

Mayweather could have gone after the 28-year-old Rousey by giving the old ‘I told you so’ line after Rousey had previously said that she could beat Mayweather in an anything goes type of fight, but Mayweather held off and showed mercy to the exposed Rousey in her moment of weakness.

Is Holm victory over Rousey a win for boxing?

holm4By Gav Duthie: The Ronda Rousey bubble has been well and truly burst by ex-boxing world champion Holly Holm. Holm was 33-2-3 (9) as a boxer made the switch to MMA is 2013 and made history becoming the first crossover boxing/UFC champion. Holm aka ‘The Preachers Daughter’ knocked out Ronda Rousey in just 2 rounds last night to see the superstar drop to 12-1 with the victor improving to 10-0. The Ring magazine controversially and now rather embarrassingly had Rousey on their front cover last month with last night proving she has little boxing ability whatsoever.

I must admit I am not one of those who follows both sports, I’m a boxing man through and through. Was last night a win for boxing? It is very rare we get to see top fighters from both sports fight in their primes. Can female boxing learn from UFC?

Did Holly Holm prove boxers are superior?

holm573By Gerardo Granados: I told to a friend that the funny thing about yesterdays Holly Holm beat down of Ronda Rousey was that we the boxing fight fans were talking about it. We gave it more attention than other prior MMA events and some boxing fight fans and writers attribute Holm´s success to his boxing ability, but shouldn’t we have had ignored the bout and instead have kept focus on the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez event?

The reader must have seen the Cotto vs Canelo Face Off on HBO Boxing. I wonder if it was as boring for you as it was for me. It won’t matter how hard Max Kellerman tries to make Cotto and Canelo to act like if there was bad blood between them because there is none. If it wasn’t for the back ground music I would have fall asleep hearing the routinely repetitive answers made by both teams.

Ronda Rousey appears on Ring Magazine cover

rousey4By Dan Ambrose: For some reason Ring Magazine had placed UFC female star Ronda Rousey on the cover of their magazine for the January 2016 issue with the title “Conquered MMA. Is Boxing Next?” Rousey doesn’t boxing background. She came from a judo background, and the natural sport for her to move to after her judo days were over was MMA.

Since joining the UFC, Rousey has done very well, but she’s also faced absolutely horrible opposition. Rousey hasn’t faced anyone that you can a quality MMA fighter like Cyborg. Most of the women that Rousey has faced haven’t been involved with the sport for very long, which suggests that Rousey is facing largely amateurish opposition.

Golovkin thanks Ronda Rousey for support

1-golovkin (8)By Tim Fletcher: IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) thanked UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey for her support today on his social media site. Rousey, who has considered by many to be the best women’s athlete in the world right now, has been real supportive of Golovkin in the lead up to his unification fight this Saturday night on HBO PPV against IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golovkin and Rousey got to know acquainted during the 2015 ESPYs last July. She sees Golovkin as a really good person who carries himself well, and represents the sport of boxing in a professional manner unlike some other stars that tarnish the sport.

Ronda Rousey says she makes more money per second than Mayweather

rousey3By Jim Dower: After being dismissed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently when he told her to come look him up when she starts making $300 million per fight like he made against Manny Pacquiao, UFC woman’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has fired back with a comment about how she thinks she makes more money per second than Mayweather makes for his fights.

In overall pay, Mayweather likely makes more money than the 28-year-old Rousey, but her fights have been lasting only one round lately due to the lack of quality for her to fight. Rousey isn’t facing opposition with a massive amount of experience, and the result is she’s stopping them quickly in less than one round.
