Did Holly Holm prove boxers are superior?

holm573By Gerardo Granados: I told to a friend that the funny thing about yesterdays Holly Holm beat down of Ronda Rousey was that we the boxing fight fans were talking about it. We gave it more attention than other prior MMA events and some boxing fight fans and writers attribute Holm´s success to his boxing ability, but shouldn’t we have had ignored the bout and instead have kept focus on the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez event?

The reader must have seen the Cotto vs Canelo Face Off on HBO Boxing. I wonder if it was as boring for you as it was for me. It won’t matter how hard Max Kellerman tries to make Cotto and Canelo to act like if there was bad blood between them because there is none. If it wasn’t for the back ground music I would have fall asleep hearing the routinely repetitive answers made by both teams.

Did the readers watched the Rousey vs Holm fight? Were you interested to hear the result and to see the great knockout video? Did you watch the weigh in video? If you answered yes can you respond why you have payed attention to an MMA women major event?

I am a boxing fight fan but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a good fight regardless the fighting technique involved. To me Rousey´s game plan was awful trying to outbox a boxer by walking straight lines with his chin high guard low, no head movement open to a taller with longer reach Holm. Ronda should have tried to kick to get inside, with his guard tight and force Holm to the canvas looking for submission arm bar or choke. It was sad to see her walking straight forward to those precise counter punches whilst Holm moved beautifully on the octagon.

Competition isn’t hurting Pro Boxing what hurts it is the lousy mismatches and the boxing divas refusing to engage solid contenders. It is not about to argue if boxing is a better fighting technique than MMA; because to be honest the quality of match making and the excessive weight divisions and organization championship belts are the ones hurting Pro Boxing.

If we the hard core boxing fight fans are paying attention, then what can we expect from casual fans? Maybe Promoters, TV Networks and boxers should be aware of this and improve the final product offered to us.

Was all the attention given to this fight way more positive than the past due fight of the century sold at an overprice last May or is it possible that the Holm upset will last in our memories and the May fight will soon be forgotten.

Boxing will never be dead as long as we get what we want and it is not pure boxing exhibitions but instead all action fights.

I have noticed all the attention given to the Rousey vs Holm fight, but what about you?
