Arum gushing about Pacquiao vs. Rios bout on November 24th

pac56By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is incredibly excited about the November 24th fight between the recently beaten Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) and Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Both fighters are coming off of losses and in Pacquiao’s case, he’s coming off of two straight losses. The fight will still be on HBO pay per view regardless and the fight is being staged in Macau so that Pacquiao doesn’t have to pay the U.S tax rate on the loot he gets from American fans.

Pacquiao to spar Provodnikov to get ready for Rios

provodnikov22By Chris Williams: Former welterweight title challenger Ruslan Provodnikov will be one of the sparring partners to help get Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) get ready for his November 24th fight against Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China, according to the Sweetscience.com.

Provodnikov, 29, is trained by the same guy, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao and he’s worked as a sparring partner for Pacquiao in the past.

Provodnikov is coming off a close 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley last March in a fight where he had Bradley hurt several times in the fight from big shots to the head.

Pacquiao making a mistake in fighting Rios

jmm_ko_pacBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao and his team may think they’ve got an easy mark on their hands with the stationary fighter Brandon Rios, but I see this fight going really badly for Pacquiao when he meets up with Rios on November 24th at the Venetian Room in Macau, China.

There’s no question about it Pacquiao has the better hand speed and he moves better – or he used to. However, if he plans on standing and trading with Rios for 12 rounds, he’s going to be in a lot of trouble in this fight because Rios can any take shot Pacquiao can give.

Roach wants Pacquiao to KO Rios to pay him back for mocking him

roach4523By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has another reason why he wants his fighter Manny Pacquiao to knockout Brandon Rios in their fight on November 23rd in Macau, China.

Rios was videotaped doing a poor imitation of Roach three years ago in which Rios was shaking in apparent mock of Roach’s Parkinson disease problem. It didn’t go over well with many boxing fans, and it clearly rubbed Roach the wrong way, although he says it didn’t really bother him all that much.

Roach said to ESPN’s Dan Rafael “They were trying to get under my skin, and they can do what they want. They can do all the shaking they want…this fight is going to be a great payback for me. I can’t wait for the fight. It’s the fight I wanted for Manny.”

Is Pacquiao vs. Rios a PPV worthy bout?

pac555PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: On November 23rd, Manny Pacquiao will be facing Brandon Rios in a fight that will be televised on HBO pay per view from Macau, China. There still isn’t a price listing for U.S boxing fans, but if history is any guide the fight will likely be shown for $59.99 and likely higher for HD.

With both guys coming off of losses, and Pacquiao having lost his last two fights, how is it that this fight is on PPV?

Rios-Pacquiao to take place at 147 lbs on HBO PPV

rios1By Chris Williams: Former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios won’t have to worry about having to strip off a lot of water weight for his next fight against Manny Pacquiao on November 23rd in their fight at the Venetian Maco Resort Hotel in Macau, China.

The fight will take place at 147 lbs, so if Rios has to struggle to make even this weight then there’s no excuse for the guy. Rios had to move up in weight from lightweight last year because he could no longer make the 135 lb. limit, but then in his last two fights, Rios has struggled to make the 140 lb. at light welterweight in his two fights with Mike Alvarado.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios on November 23rd in Macau, China

pac67By Chris Williams: According to Steve Kim, former 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) will be fighting Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 24th in a Top Rank promoted fight in Macau, China.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had recently narrowed the choices for Pacquiao’s next fight to Mike Alvarado and Rios after his primary targets – Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley – had decided to fight each other instead of taking the Pacquiao fight.

Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios targeted for April 20th

Image: Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios targeted for April 20thBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao is already being steered for a fight against unbeaten former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) on April 20th next year. Bob Arum, Pacquiao and Rios’ promoter, wants that fight next after Pacquiao’s fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday and that’s what boxing will be seeing.

Of course, a loss for Pacquiao on Saturday could change Arum’s plans of a Pacquiao-Rios fight, because Pacquiao would almost have to fight Marquez for a 5th time because this wouldn’t be a loss where we’d see Pacquiao not face Marquez again for three years like we saw after Pacquiao beat Marquez by a questionable 12 round decision in 2008.

Arum: Brandon Rios vs. Pacquiao a possibility for 2013

Image: Arum: Brandon Rios vs. Pacquiao a possibility for 2013By Chris Williams: While there countless guys that would be perfect opponents WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao to fight, his promoter Bob Arum is eying a future match-up with former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios in 2013. Arum sees that as a future big fight. Arum, by the way, just happens to be the promoter for Rios, so this would be one of those in house Top Rank fights that Arum likes to put together. Gosh, that’s like seeing Pacquiao fight Ricky Hatton again. What a joke.
