Arum: Khan was rejected for Pacquiao fight by cable/satellite distributors

khanBy Scott Gilfoid: If you’re wondering why Amir Khan wasn’t selected as Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent for his 4/9 fight on HBO PPV, it’s because he was rejected by the Cable and satellite distributors, according to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank.

They rejected the 29-year-old Khan for a variety of reasons for the Pacquiao fight. First of all, they felt that Khan’s record was blemished with defeats, and they weren’t impressed with his ratings for previous fights.

If Khan couldn’t bring in good ratings on regular Showtime or HBO, then it’s likely that he wouldn’t pull in the fans for a pay-per-view fight against Pacquiao. They also thought that Khan wouldn’t perform. I’m not entirely sure what they mean by that, but my guess is they thought Khan would run around the ring trying to keep from getting hit by Pacquiao all night long.

Arum to market Pacquiao-Bradley fight as a different Bradley

bradley2222222By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will have his work cut out for him in selling the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley on 4/9 on HBO pay-per-view. Since many boxing fans have already seen Pacquiao face Bradley twice before, Arum is going to be working a different angle for their first fight so that they don’t see the fight as another win for Pacquiao.

Arum reportedly will be working the angle of Bradley having improved as a fighter under the helm of trainer Teddy Atlas, who has worked with Bradley for all of one fight against an overweight Brandon Rios last November.

Arum explains why Adrien Broner wasn’t selected for Pacquiao

arum3242(Top Rank promoter Bob Arum seen here cradling Tim Bradley’s head after his controversial victory over Manny Pacquiao in their first fight in 2012) By Chris Williams: Many boxing fans were unhappy with Manny Pacquiao selecting Tim Bradley, a fighter he arguably has already beaten twice, for his next fight on April 9th on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This could be the final fight of Pacquiao’s long 22-year pro career, and fans wanted to see him fight someone different like WBO light welterweight champion Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) rather than a fighter that he’s already arguably beaten twice in 32-year-old Bradley.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank says Broner would have had no business being in the ring with a fighter like Pacquiao. Arum compares Broner with Andre Berto, a fighter that looked very over-matched in his one-sided 12 round unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September in Las Vegas.

Adrien Broner upset about not getting Pacquiao fight

broner5456By Chris Williams: WBA World light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) is not too happy about having been led on by Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) and then passed over for WBO 147lb champion Timothy Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) for Pacquiao’s next and possibly final fight of his career on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner, 26, blames being passed over for the Pacquiao fight on his 84-year-old promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, who he feels wanted to go in house by matching Pacquiao up with one of his own Top Rank fighters in Bradley rather than putting him in with a non-Top Rank fighter.

Mayweather Sr: Crawford would have put holes in Pacquiao’s backside

1-Pacquiao_Mayweather_150429_008aBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks that Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) selected Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) to fight in his next fight on April 9th because he’s the only one of the three candidates that his promoter Bob Arum picked out that he can beat. Arum asked Pacquiao to pick from the following three candidates: Terence Crawford, Tim Bradley and Amir Khan.

Not surprisingly, Pacquiao selected Bradley, a fighter that he’d arguably beaten twice already in their fights in 2012 and 2014. Floyd Sr. thinks that if Pacquiao had fought Crawford, he would have gotten his backside kicked by the American fighter.

Arum: Pacquiao could change his mind about retiring after April

arum55By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum refuses to advertise Manny Pacquiao’s next fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley on April 9th as Pacquiao’s last fight of his career. However, Pacquiao has let it be known that if he gets elected into the senate in the Philippines in the May elections that he will likely be unable to continue his boxing career.

Arum doesn’t want to take any chances that by saying Pacquiao’s fight against Bradley will be his last one just in case he changes his mind. Arum doesn’t want to look like he falsely advertised the Pacquiao-Bradley 3 fight as a ‘going out of business’ type of fight for the Filipino, because it will make him look bad to some fans if Pacquiao does come back.

“I’m not going to advertise it as his last fight. He could change his mind, then everyone says I’m a huckster,” Arum said via Lance Pugmire.

Arthur Abraham vs. Gilberto Ramirez possible for Pacquiao-Bradley undercard

abraham6By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is really looking to beef up the undercard of the April 9th Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 fight card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latest fight that Arum is hoping to add to the undercard for the fight is a showdown between unbeaten #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) and WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs).

Arum believes that the 24-year-old Ramirez can become popular like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Thus far, however, Ramirez remains a flawed fighter with an inflated resume of wins over weak opponents. Ramirez looks nowhere near the talent level of the 25-year-old Canelo.

Arum wants Ike Ibeabuchi vs. Andy Ruiz on Pacquiao-Bradley undercard

arum9By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is interested in adding his fighter unbeaten #8 WBO, #11 IBF, #11 WBC heavyweight Andy Ruiz (26-0, 17 KOs) to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley undercard on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, Arum wants to match the 26-year-old Ruiz against 44-year-old former heavyweight contender Ike Ibeabuchi (20-0, 15 KOs) on the undercard. Arum is going to try and make the Ibeabuchi-Ruiz fight if possible. Ibeabuchi was just released from prison last year after having series 15 years.

Arum: Pacquiao to fight Bradley in third fight

Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) will be fighting one of his promoter Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters in 32-year-old WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) next in what could be Pacquiao’s final fight of his career on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is still not official yet, so there is a possibility that Pacquiao could face someone else on 4/9. With Arum saying that it is going to be Bradley, you have to assume this is what the case is going to be.

Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3 expected to be announced on Friday

bradley99999By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will be making an announcement this Friday on his 84th birthday about who his No.1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) will be facing for his final fight of his career on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum will be making the announcement during the broadcast of his truTV fight card from the Coliseo Roberto Clemente, San Juan, Puerto Rico. WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) is expected to be the guy that Arum announces as Pacquiao’s opponent. If Bradley doesn’t get announced as the guy for Pacquiao then it’ll be a huge insult to him.
