Why are Pacquiao’s fans against him fighting Marquez below 147?

By Chris Williams: Any time the subject of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez below 147 pounds come up, you’ll notice that Pacquiao’s adoring fans start to complain like mad against Pacquiao doing that. Almost to the last man/woman, they seem to be against Pacquiao giving Marquez any kind of weight allowance by coming in a lesser weight than 147. In other words, Marquez shouldn’t get a smaller catch weight if he wants to fight Pacquiao. With them, it’s 147 or forget it. What I don’t understand why they’re so against Marquez getting even a small weight allowance for a third fight with Pacquiao.

Roach thinks Marquez is a more profitable opponent for Pacquiao than Mosley

Image: Roach thinks Marquez is a more profitable opponent for Pacquiao than MosleyBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach likes the idea of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez next, and thinks a fight between them would be more profitable than a fight against 39-year-old Shane Mosley. Speaking with Philboxing.com, Roach said “Manny and Marquez have a history between them. You know, they’ve fought twice, and they were close fights. Marquez knows Manny and knows what gives Manny trouble. Marquez has proven that in two fights. both fights went the distance. Marquez has been down four times in two fights, but he’s gotten up and made the fight. Marquez is a very durable guy and he’s got an audience and a fan base behind him. So he’s marketable.”

Pacquiao hasn’t fought a prime tough fast counter-puncher Since Márquez

Image: Pacquiao hasn't fought a prime tough fast counter-puncher Since MárquezBy Tom Graves: I rate Manny Pacquiao highly, so highly I consider him as one of the best pound for pound ever. ‘The Pacman’ has some truly great victories over top names, but recently I realized since his rematch with Juan Manuel Márquez in 2008, Pacquiao has indeed faced bigger opposition but those opponents have been slower punchers and boxers past their primes.

Pacquiao willing to fight Marquez for a guaranteed purse – but worried the fight will lose money

By Dan Ambrose: Manny Pacquiao has no problems with facing WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez as long as Pacquiao gets a guaranteed purse. Pacquiao is convinced the fight won’t sell for some reason and is worried that it will actually lose money instead of making it. Why Pacquiao thinks this is unclear, because he’s faced two less than popular Top Rank fighters Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, and both of those fights have made a lot of money. It’s hard to see Clottey or Margarito as having larger fan bases than Marquez.

Roach wants Pacquiao to face Marquez but at 147

Image: Roach wants Pacquiao to face Marquez but at 147By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach wants Manny Pacquiao to finally give Juan Manuel Marquez a rematch, but instead of the fight taking place at 135 to 140, which would make it a winnable fight for Marquez, Roach wants the fight to take place at 147. In other words, he wants Pacquiao to have a huge advantage over Marquez. Roach no doubt saw how badly Marquez performed when he bulked up to 143 last year in his catch-weight fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and likes Pacquiao’s chances at fighting Marquez at an even higher weight of 147 pounds. Marquez will likely still take the fight, but it’s hardly fair. Roach must feel that Pacquiao needs the weight advantage for him to win. Why else would Roach have Pacquiao fight at the full 147 instead of using one of his handicaps?

Pacquiao not interested in fighting a third fight with Marquez for now – News

Image: Pacquiao not interested in fighting a third fight with Marquez for now – NewsBy Jason Kim: For boxing fans that were hoping that Manny Pacquiao would choose to fight a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez in the near future, they’re going to have forget about that, at least for now. According to Globalnation.inquierer.net, Pacquiao’s lawyer Jeng Gacal, said “He’s [Marquez] out of the picture at the moment.” If Pacquiao does ever fight Marquez again, it will be over 140. Gacal says “Manny will find it hard to trim down to 140 now.” Marquez fought over 140 in his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in September, and looked slow and bloated at that weight.

News: Roach wants Pacquiao to fight Marquez

Image: News: Roach wants Pacquiao to fight MarquezBy Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is interested in having Manny fight boxing great Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO’s) next, according to writer Nick Giongco from the Manila Bulletin. This would be a great replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum isn’t able to negotiate terms with Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions. The way things are looking, with neither side willing to give in about the random blood tests, it’s looking like the March 13th Mayweather-Pacquiao fight won’t be happening.

Roach wants Pacquiao to face Marquez at a 145 pound catch-weight

pac3322By Manuel Perez: I thought the catch weight bouts for Manny Pacquiao were done and finished with his fight with World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto last weekend, but I guess I’m wrong. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, in an article with Philstar, said “ Maybe we can do Marquez one more time and give him a rematch…It will definitely be a big fight.” Roach is speaking of Juan Manuel Marquez as a backup plan to use in case a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t materialize for one reason or another.
