Koncz: Marquez turned down $13 million offer for Pacquiao fight

marquez34By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz is saying that Juan Manuel Marquez turned down an offer of $13 million to face Pacquiao in a rematch on November 23rd in Macau, China. Koncz says he doesn’t understand why Marquez would turn down such a huge amount for a 5th fight with Pacquiao.

The last time Marquez fought Pacquiao, he made only $6 million guaranteed compared to Pacquiao’s $23 million guaranteed in a 76/24 split that was heavily slanted in Pacquiao’s favor.

Koncz said to Hustleboss.com “I was quite surprised actually, because we offered Marquez $13 million dollars and then we offered Bradley $6 million.”

Should Marquez ever fight Pacquiao again?

marquez073By Mark Havey: The two men always appeared amicable outside of the ring. They even seemed to be friends. But inside the ring, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez were bitter rivals. They still are in fact. After three fights fans were either thrilled or frustrated. Thrilled because they were all wars.

Frustrated because the we were no closer to separating the two. Three fights and all were so close. two wins for Pacquiao and one draw. Yet they were so close that I have heard ever possible outcome for each fight. I have even heard that each was a draw. Scoring for the fights is even more varied. All good fights and all close.

Rafael: Pacquiao’s team aren’t keen on Marquez rematch

pac2222By Chris Williams: Dan Rafael of ESPN thinks Manny Pacquiao’s team aren’t particularly interested in seeing him back in the ring with Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez so soon for his next fight.

They’d rather see Pacquiao fight someone else instead, which makes a lot of sense given how badly Pacquiao was knocked out by Marquez last December. Pacquiao was knocked out cold by a right hand in the 6th round in that fight, and he was earlier knocked down by a big thudding right hand shot in the 3rd.

Keys to victory for Pacquiao in a 5th fight with Marquez

pac672When Manny Pacquiao (55-5-1) was KOed by Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round of their fight last December 8, 2012, and many were led to believe that the Pacman has nothing left up his sleeve to fight again the future. But watching the fight objectively, it is difficult to say that the eight time world champion’s career is over.

The KO simply got him closer to rediscovering himself and renewing the fire and passion that he had for boxing when he was a younger, hungrier fighter.

First, it is clear that Marquez prepared to load his punches with more power.

Roach: Marquez wants close to a 50-50 split for Pacquiao 5th fight

pac890By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach isn’t sure if a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez can be put together because the 39-year-old Marquez wants parity in the money split between the two fighters.

Marquez has consistently taken a much smaller money split in his four previous fights with the Filipino but after knocking him out in the 6th round last December, Marquez wants close to a 50-50 deal to fight him again. You can’t blame him because Pacquiao’s last two fights against Marquez have drawn 1.4 million and 1.15 million pay per view buys.

Marquez rides into sunset on Pacquiao

marquez5By Robert Elmore: Juan Manuel Marquez took his family, his money and possibly his greatest victory ever, got on his horse and began to ride off into the sunset. “You’re a coward. Why don’t you give Manny Pacquiao a rematch? He gave you a chance to fight him in a third match”, several boxing fans screamed. Marquez unsaddled and starred back at them and yelled “I don’t owe him anything.”

Marquez finally ended any doubts in the minds of many boxing fans who was the better fighter between him and his nemeses Manny Pacquiao. There had been so much controversy between these two with many giving Pac the nod based on compubox numbers. The other fans gave Marquez the nod because many felt he landed the cleaner shots and simply out boxed the Filipino star. Manny had choices outside of Marquez, but chose the Mexican star because he had just as much to prove as Marquez. It really didn’t matter what the fans thought. The judges had the final say.

It’s not looking good for Pacquiao in landing Marquez rematch for September

pac006By Chris Williams: Bob Arum is going to need to either open up his piggy bank and spill out a lot more green cash or he’s going to have to book WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight in September in Macao, China, because Juan Manuel Marquez is saying he wants no part of a fifth fight with Pacquiao.

Marquez, 39, feels he’s accomplished enough in his four fights with the Filipino and he doesn’t need to keep fighting him. Marquez wants to capture a fifth world title and the fight he wants is against Bradley, not Pacquiao.

Roach: Pacquiao badly wants the Marquez rematch

pac004By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that Manny Pacquiao can’t wait to get in the ring with Juan Manuel Marquez again to try and avenge his 6th round knockout loss from last December in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach says he’d like to see Pacquiao and Marquez face each other in Mexico if the fight gets made this September.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum wants the fight to be staged in Macao, his first choice, or Singapore in order to avoid the 39.6% tax rate that Pacquiao would have to pay for the loot that he gets from U.S boxing fans in pay-per-view.

Roach said to Philstar.com “Manny wants a rematch more than anything else. That’s the fight I want. It’s still the biggest fight out there. I want the last fight in Mexico. That’s my dream.”

Pacquiao: I’m ahead of Marquez in the tally of our four fights

pac11111By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao doesn’t understand why Juan Manuel Marquez suddenly has lost interest in fighting him after having scored a 6th round knockout last December for Marquez’s first win of their four-fight series. Pacquiao figures he’s still up two fights to one with one of them being even, and he’s okay with that.

Pacquiao said to the manilstandardtoday.com “He says he doesn’t want to fight me because he won our last fight? Well, I am still ahead in the tally of our last four fights. I won two, lost one and drew one.”

I think more than a few boxing fans would disagree with Pacquiao’s tally.

Merchant: Pacquiao has to fight Marquez next to relight the fire

pac7By Chris Williams: Former HBO analyst Larry Merchant doesn’t think it’s over for Filipino Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) despite him having lost his last two fights with one of them being a vicious knockout to Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s). Merchant thinks that Pacquiao should get right back in the ring with Marquez, and if he can beat him, then move forward with his career to take on the other top fighters at welterweight and light welterweight.

Merchant said to esnewsreporting.com “I think Pacquiao is capable of coming back. Manny Pacquiao has to fight Marquez again first…if he comes back and looks good in that fight, then it will relight that fire, and there are a bunch of good 140/147-pounders out there.”
