Pacquiao vs. Clottey – A Breakdown

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey - A BreakdownBy Ryan Dunn: Joshua Clottey is a bruiser. He’s a solid fighter with a tight stance, and a tendency to bull rush his opponents with intentions of body shots and uppercuts.

Sometimes this style yields opportunities to land his power shots, but other times it can set up his blind hooks that cause head butts. Don’t rule out an early cut as Clottey tries to prove his worth against the pound-for-pound king. If a surprise knockdown of Pacquiao is going to happen for Clottey, it’s going to be in the early rounds.

Roach is going to have egg on his face if Pacquiao loses to Clottey

Image: Roach is going to have egg on his face if Pacquiao loses to ClotteyBy Dave Lahr: With all the bragging and predictions that trainer Freddie Roach has been making about Manny Pacquiao beating Joshua Clottey by a knockout, Roach is going to have some serious egg on his face should Pacquiao get taken out or otherwise beaten by Clottey on March 13th at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. Roach has been saying how Clottey isn’t very good, is a flawed fighter and how Pacquiao is going to get to him in the 12th round.

Is Pacquiao’s career complete if he doesn’t fight Mayweather?

Image: Is Pacquiao’s career complete if he doesn’t fight Mayweather?By Esteban Garduno: In the teleconference call yesterday, World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao said the following: “I believe I don’t really need to fight Mayweather because what I have actually done in boxing right now, I think is good enough for me.” But is Pacquiao’s career really complete if he doesn’t fight Mayweather? I really don’t think it is. Pacquiao fought few recognizable opponents from the start of his career until he fought Marco Antonio Barrera for the first time in 2003. By then, Pacquiao had been fighting for eight years and had won titles in the flyweight and super bantamweight divisions.

Pacquiao: “Maybe he’s [Mayweather] afraid of me”

Image: Pacquiao: “Maybe he’s [Mayweather] afraid of me”By Sean McDaniel: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao said today in a teleconference that he believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t want to fight with him at this time. “Maybe he’s afraid of me or maybe he’s afraid for this fight.” Pacquiao is talking about how Mayweather asked for random blood tests to be taken from both he and Pacquiao before they could fight. The Nevada Athletic Commission only asks that urine be checked, and not blood.

Roach: “He’s [Clottey] got a good chin, but we’ll [Pacquiao] make him quit”

Image: Roach: “He’s [Clottey] got a good chin, but we’ll [Pacquiao] make him quit”By Sean McDaniel: Freddie Roach thinks that Manny Pacquiao will score a knockout over Joshua Clottey on March 13th. In an article at the Manila Bulletin, Roach says “He’s [Clottey] got a good chin but we’ll make him quit sometime late in the fight.” If Roach’s prediction comes true, it would be the first time that the 32-year-old Clottey has been stopped during his 15 year career. Clottey has been in with some good punchers before, surviving but losing to both Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto, neither of which even came close to stopping or hurting Clottey.

Roach: “I think Manny [Pacquiao] will be the first to knock him [Clottey] out”

Image: Roach: “I think Manny [Pacquiao] will be the first to knock him [Clottey] out”By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach is feeling good about the chances for his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao against former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey on March 13th. In a teleconference today, Roach said “Clottey’s a very strong guy, he’s a good puncher. I think his best punch is the uppercuts. But I have a lot of confidence in my fighter [Pacquiao]. He’s sparring with guys who fight quite a bit like Clottey. We have big strong guys and Manny’s handling them with ease. I think we will overwhelm him and I think the fight will end before 12 rounds are over. I think Manny will be the first to knock him out.”

Prediction: Clottey will make Pacquiao submit

Image: Prediction: Clottey will make Pacquiao submitBy Chris Williams: Look for Manny Pacquiao to fold under the heavy pressure from Joshua Clottey on March 13th. When this fight was first signed, I thought this would be simple cut and dried case of Pacquiao being too good for Clottey. But after seeing how good Clottey is looking in training and doing some research into his last fight against Miguel Cotto, I think Clottey is going to batter Pacquiao like a rag doll and ultimately make him submit or have his trainer Freddie Roach step in for him to yank Pacquiao from the fight.

Pacquiao vs. Clottey is a Waste of Time

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey is a Waste of TimeBy Kirk Jackson: The fight between Pacquiao and Clottey on the 13th of march is a waste of time. The fight shouldn’t even be happening. To start off, no one really cares about this fight. The only real fight everyone wants to see is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, which arguably would be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. Pacquiao goes for making at least 40 million dollars if fighting Floyd Mayweather to now making maybe around 12 million. Nice money to make even still, but you’d probably be better off maximizing your financial opportunities in such a deadly sport.

Pacquiao vs. Clottey: I see Joshua leaving Manny a bloody mess

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey: I see Joshua leaving Manny a bloody messBy Esteban Garduno: Too many boxing fans are giving WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao way too much credit for his recent wins over Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, and seem to be using those wins as reasons for why Pacquiao will beat challenger Joshua Clottey on March 13th when they meet up at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. If those fighters – all come forward types that were made for Pacquiao – were still fighting in their prime and were actually fighting well at the time that they had fought Pacquiao, maybe I would drink the Kool-aid along with Manny’s fans and start seeing Pacquiao as the real deal.

Blood vs. Urine – The Truth about PEDs

By Ryan Dunn: Okay, I’ve been waiting to put this article out for a while now but decided I would do my research first, gather the facts, compare my analysis, and verify my findings. Think of this as a dossier intended to illuminate some truths about anti-doping testing, and a way to address the thousand pound gorilla in the room: which performance enhancement drugs (PEDs) can be detected in the blood but not in the urine, and how does this relate to our great sport of boxing.
