Viktor Postol and Martyniouk to work as sparring partners for Pacquiao for Algieri fight

pac553By Chris Williams: #1 WBC light welterweight contender Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) and lightweight Stan Martyniouk (13-2, 2 KOs) will reportedly be flying out to the Philippines to work as sparring partners for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s November 22nd fight against Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs).

Pacquiao making a mistake by overlooking Algieri

algieri5By Cameron Gillon: Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against the unbeaten young fighter Chris Algieri on November 22nd in Macao, China, but is Pacquiao underestimating his next opponent? In my opinion, yes.

Since the fight has been announced the only subject Pacquiao, his trainer Freddie Roach and promoter Bob Arum have spoke about is a possible mega-fight with long time rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. The whole saga started at the city press tour to build the fight between Pacquiao and Algieri, and through each event they would talk about the Pacquiao-Algieri fight. But as soon as Pacquiao, Roach and Arum were interviewed away from the press tour, they would talk about Mayweather and Mayweather only.

roach212By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach will start training camp with his fighter WBO 147lb champ Manny Pacquiao next month in the Philippines for his first defense of his WBO title against light welterweight Chris Algieri on 11/22 in Macao, China.

Pacquiao is going to be fighting Algieri at a catch-weight of 144 pounds rather than at the full weight for the division. Pacquiao and Roach decided that it would be better for the training camp to be situated in the Philippines so that Pacquiao could quickly travel to nearby Macao, China for the fight against Algieri on November 22nd.

Pacquiao’s most Dangerous fight in years

pac0000By Rusty Nate: There has been a fair bit of writing and commenting on the whole “boredom” that is Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao recently. It is a subject that has raged for years and having watched Manny avenge the defeat to Tim Bradley and Mayweather comprehensively beat Marcos Maidana for a second time it has re-surfaced and once again the haters and lovers are in full force.

It appears to me personally that this fight will not happen although I do hold out hope that Floyd maybe thinking to himself quietly “what better way to end my career undefeated than by having my last ever fight be against Pacquiao.”

Algieri is all wrong for Pacquiao, says Byrd

algieri52By Chris Williams: Former heavyweight world champion Chris Byrd believes that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) has bitten off more than he can chew in taking on WBO 140lb champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) in their scheduled fight on November 22nd on HBO pay-per-view at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Byrd sees Algieri’s 5’10” height as being all wrong for the 35-year-old Pacquiao, and he also sees his defensive skills and youth being a problem for the aging Filipino star as well. Byrd likes Algieri’s boxing skills as well, and he thinks he could end up out-boxing Pacquiao in this fight.
