Arum thinks Pacquiao-Algieri will bring in 750,000 to 950,000 PPV buys

arum7By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes next months’ fight between his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) and little known Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) will bring in respectable pay-per-view numbers on HBO PPV from Macao, China. Arum specifically thinks the Pacquiao-Algieri fight will bring in as much as 950,000 pay-per-view buys, because the fight is receiving publicity.

The publicity the Pacquiao-Agieri fight doesn’t appear to be any different than Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios last November, a fight that brought in only 450,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO, but Arum seems to think it’s receiving more publicity.

Arum included rematch clause in Pacquiao’s contract for Algieri fight

arum4334By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, wanting to cover his bases, says he inserted a rematch clause in the contract for the November 22nd fight between his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and his non-Top Rank opponent Chris Algieri.

Arum wanted to make sure that if the 35-year-old Pacquiao gets beaten by Algieri, he’ll be able to get him a rematch so that he can try and avenge the loss and win back his WBO title. But if Pacquiao does lose to Algieri by getting out-boxed, Arum might not be doing the Filipino star any favors by having him fight Algieri a second time.

Algieri thinks he can KO Pacquiao

algieri787By Chris Williams: Undefeated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) isn’t known for his punching power. He’s only knocked out two opponent in his last 7 fights. However, Algieri believes he’s got the punching power to KO the 35-year-old Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) in their fight next month on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, in Macao S.A.R., China.

Algieri thinks he’s got the power to send Pacquiao down. He’s not saying that he’s absolutely going to KO Pacquiao, but rather he has the power to knock him out if he lands with the right shot.

Algieri: I don’t have to hate Pacquiao to destroy him

algieri5By Chris Williams: Undefeated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) was a visitor on HBO last night during the “Mexican Style” telecast on HBO Championship Boxing. HBO commentator Jim Lampley pointed out to the boxing viewers that Algieri defeated WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) already in one-on-one basketball, pool and in bowling.

Algieri then calmly told Lampley that he also beat Pacquiao in batting practice with the San Francisco Giants.

Pacquiao wants to KO Algieri in 6 rounds or less

pac00002By Chris Williams: With it becoming increasingly clear with each and every fight that Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) takes nowadays that his power has disappeared on him since 2009, he is hoping that he can reach back 2000 yesterday’s ago and find some of his long lost old power to knockout his next opponent Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, in Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Pacquiao hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2009 when he stopped Miguel Cotto in the 12th round. While Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has continued to hammer away with his bold predictions for Pacquiao to knockout each of his last 8 opponents, Pacquiao has come up empty each time.

roach67By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will be moving down to 140 after his catch-weight fight at 144 pounds against unbeaten Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, in Macao S.A.R., China.

Arum worried Pacquiao might not be focused for Algieri fight

arum45By Chris Williams: With WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao insisting on playing for the PBA, it puts him at risk for injury and it could jeopardize his November 22nd fight against unbeaten Chris Algieri in this fight at the Cotai Arena in Macao, China.

Pacquiao wants to play basketball and says he’ll only be playing a few minutes, but when you’ve got an important fight like his upcoming fight against Algieri then the last thing you want to do is play a game like basketball.

Pacquiao vs. Algieri to get just one 24/7 episode on HBO on November 8th

pac555By Chris Williams: In what has to be seen as a bad indication of how they perceived the November 22nd fight between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri, HBO will be televising just one Pacquiao/Algieri 24/7 episode instead of multiple ones like we’ve seen with many of Pacquiao’s other boxing fights.

The Pacquiao/Algieri 24/7 episode will be televised on November 8th at 1:00 a.m. (ET/PT on HBO after the Bernard Hopkins vs. Sergey Kovalev fight on Championship Boxing from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The bad news is that if the Pacquiao-Algieri fight does poorly on PPV like some boxing writers think it will then Pacquiao will lose pretty much all the bargaining power that he ever had with Floyd Mayweather Jr. If Pacquiao-Algieri brings in only 400,000 PPV buys or less, Pacquiao would be lucky to get a 70/30 purse split for a Mayweather fight, and I doubt Pacquiao would ever accept that offer.
