Ellerbe: Mayweather could beat anyone from 140 to 160

floyd8By Allan Fox: Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, feels there’s no one from 140 to 160 that Floyd Mayweather Jr. couldn’t beat during his six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS. Ellerbe believes Mayweather can beat anyone in those divisions.

However, that doesn’t mean he’s going to be fighting guys in all of those weight classes, he says. It’s just that he thinks Mayweather in theory COULD beat all of them. Mayweather will be fighting a welterweight in his first fight with Showtime on May 4th against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather: I have to build up my cardio to beat Guerrero

mayweather453434By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has just been given a huge $250 million six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS, but now he’s going to have to earn it by fighting the six fights within a 30 month period time starting with the tough Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th.

Mayweather recognizes the kind of fighter that Guerrero is with his nonstop Antonio Margarito type of fighting style, and he plans on getting in the best condition possible in order to beat him.

Mayweather said this as quoted by RingTV “Guerrero is a very aggressive fighter. I am starting to train. As a matter of fact, this week I was out on the basketball court with some young kinds working on my cardio. I have to build my cardio up to beat Guerrero. I will not overlook him.”

Mayweather signing with Showtime/CBS makes Pacquiao fight even less likely

mayweather22By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s signing with Showtime/CBS pretty much finished what little chance there was in Mayweather someday fighting the Filipino star Manny Pacquiao in a mega fight between two aging stars of the sport.

Pacquiao fights for HBO, whereas Mayweather just signed a six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS that will reportedly pay him as much as $250 million if he can finish out the contract in the 30 months. If Mayweather finishes that fight series unbeaten, he’s going to be a very, very rich man.

Guerrero: Mayweather’s slowing down; he’s ripe for the picking

guerrero342By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) believes that the people who bet on him winning against unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) in their May 4th fight on pay-per-view are going to make money because he intends on beating Mayweather soundly in front of what will likely be a huge MGM Grand crowd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero said this as quoted by Dan Rafael “It’s great for people who bet & it’s great for people who will bet on me because they will make money. Odds don’t mean nothing to me because at the end of the day you still gotta get in there and fight. I see him [Mayweather] slowing down. [he’s] ripe for the picking. I’m pumped; I can’t wait to show why I am the best fighter in the world.”

Has Floyd Mayweather made a big mistake?

floyd5By Mark Calooke: This week it has been announced that Floyd Mayweather (43-0, KO’s 26) has signed a 30 month, six fight deal with Showtime. This has ended a long a prosperous period at HBO. Showtime or HBO, it doesn’t really matter. Floyd Mayweather will pull in the viewers and money as always. I don’t know how much Mayweather is being paid for his signature, but it must be alot to make such a silly mistake.

Mayweather will turn 36 this month. This isn’t really old for a defensive boxer, but Mayweather has already shown signs of fading. It’s fair to say that he hasn’t taken a truly dangerous fight since 2005 when he faced Gatti. Floyd was incredible that night but has since remained on top by avoiding the toughest fights.

Guerrero needs to KO Mayweather to win

guerrero123By Omar Torres: We all know that 43 fighters have stepped up and failed to K.O Floyd Mayweather (43-0 26KO) let alone beat the guy. In order for Robert Guerrero (31-1-1 18KO) to get his hand raised on May 4th in the MGM Grand arena he needs to KO Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather has superb defense rivaled by none, and that has kept him from being knocked out as fighters have a hard time finding his face. One promising thing for Guerrero though is that when Floyd Mayweather had his last fight with Miguel Cotto nearly a year ago, a lot of people saw Cotto giving Mayweather a run for his money. Some experts even believe that Mayweather is beginning to show signs of slowing down. Cotto was able to find openings to hit Floyd more that Floyd is used to.

Mayweather’s Showtime/CBS deal could make him $250 million for six-fight deal

1277(Photo credit: Showtime) By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will reportedly make a guaranteed $200 million if he’s able to finish his six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS in the 30 months for his contract, according to Forbes.com. With his pay-per-view cash, Mayweather could end up with more than $250 million for those six fights.

However, six fights are a lot for the aging 35-year-old Mayweather, and the odds of him finishing the six-fight deal in 30 months is questionable. It’s like one of those huge long-term contracts that are given out to NFL players where they might complete three or four years before they’re cut after they suffer an injury or they start showing signs of decline.

Broner: I’ll fight on Mayweather-Guerrero undercard if the money is good

broner777By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) says he’s willing to fight on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th on Showtime pay-per-view if the money is good enough to make it worth his while. Broner, 23, fights for HBO, so that could be a potential obstacle unless his adviser Al Haymon can smooth things over with HBO to pave his way for the PPV card.

Broner said to RingTV when asked if he’d be willing to fight on the Mayweather vs. Guerrero undercard: “If the check is right…of course, man. But I’m Mr. HBO, Man. I’m loyal. But I mean, let me tell you something. I’m a bossiness man.”

I’m sure Mayweather would love the idea of the Mayweather-clone Broner fighting on his undercard because he likes Broner a lot, but also it would be a big addition to the card to have the popular Broner on the card in terms of extra PPV buys.

Will Mayweather ever quit ducking (a.k.a fighting) the Best?

floyd6By Lance Lank: The Ring’s ratings are the only rankings anyone gives any credence to. These are not manipulated by promoter’s money, because their rankings don’t mean any mandatory title fights. Interestingly enough their welterweight rankings list Floyd Mayweather as number one, followed by Juan Manuel Marquez at number two, and Robert Guerrero at number three.

Floyd Mayweather already thoroughly dominated Marquez winning all 12 rounds quite easily. Yes, that fight was scheduled at a catchweight of 144 and Floyd weighed in two pounds over. Still no one that saw that fight would give Marquez any chance if they met again at the full welterweight limit of 147. As everyone says Marquez is just too small for Mayweather. How is the top welterweight too small for a welterweight?

Mayweather-Guerrero fight to be heavily promoted on CBS outlets

guerrero32By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. made a wise decision to go with Showtime/CBS for a six-fight pay-per-view deal because his fights are now going to be heavily promoted on the non-premium CBS outlets, which will enable Mayweather to reach many more fans than just those who subscribe to Showtime.

For starters, CBS will be advertising Mayweather’s first fight of his six-fight deal against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero during the NCAA tournament and final four, according to Dan Rafael. That means Mayweather is going to have a lot of potential new fans that could be interested enough to purchase Mayweather’s fight against Guerrero on May 4th.
