Martin Murray added to Crolla-Barroso card on 5/7

murray3By Scott Gilfoid: #9 WBC super middleweight contender Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) has been added to the May 7 card headlined by WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla vs. Ismael Barroso at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

The 33-year-old Murray’s opponent is still to be determined for the card. It’s not likely to be anyone good though because a big fight against former two-time world title challenger George Groves (22-3, 17 KOs) is in the works for the summer provided that Groves wins his next fight against David Brophy (16-0-1, 1 KOs) on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin fight card next month on April 9 at the O2 Arena in Manchester, UK.

That’s considered to be a sure thing win for Gorves, and he can possibly mess that one up by getting beaten.

George Groves vs. Martin Murray in the works

murray1By Scott Gilfoid: A fight between former four-time world title challenger Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) and two-time world title challenger George Groves (22-3, 17 KOs) is reportedly in the works for the summer. Murray’s promoter Eddie Hearn is working with Groves’ promoters at Sauerland Evens to finalize the deal.

It should be an interesting fight if it gets made. Both fighters are kind of in the same position right now in terms of their sagging careers. Groves just won his last fight against 2nd tier fighter Andrea Di Luisa last January, but before that, Groves was soundly beaten by WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack last September.

George Groves interested in Martin Murray fight

murray1By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC George Groves (22-3, 17 KOs) says he’s interested in fighting former four-time world title challenger Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) in a fight this year. Murray, 33, took the time to attend Groves’ fight last Saturday night against Andrea Di Luisa at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Groves won the fight by a 5th round stoppage, but he was facing a lesser opponent in Di Luisa in a showcase/confidence booster type of fight.

Martin Murray wants fight against George Groves

groves677By Scott Gilfoid: Former four-time world title challenger Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) is targeting a fight against #3 WBC super middleweight contender George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs). Murray has lost to the following champions in failed world title shots: Sergio Martinez, Gennady Golovkin and Arthur Abraham. He was also involved in a 12 round draw against Felix Sturm. Murray is kind of in the same boat at Matthew Macklin in getting tons of world title shots, but always coming up empty.

#10 WBC Murray, 33, and Groves have something in common in that they’ve both fought for world titles many times and come up short. #3 WBC Groves has lost three times in shots at world titles in the past, and he’s now looking for his fourth shot if he can start winning again.

Murray thinks it would be a great idea for him and Groves to face each other in order to try and advance his own career. I somehow doubt that Groves is looking for a potentially difficult fight against someone like Murray, given that he’s coming off a loss to WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack in his last fight in September.

Hearn wants Groves for DeGale, Martin Murray or Callum Smith

George GrovesBy Scott Giloid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is eager to setup a fight with one of his stable fighters in with the struggling #3 WBC George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs) in 2016 in order to take advantage of Groves’ popularity and ability to sell tickets.

You can also argue that Hearn smells blood in the water with Groves, as it’s painfully obvious that his career is sinking into the depths of the sea with his two losses to Carl Froch and his recent defeat at the hands of WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack last September.

Abraham decisions Martin Murray – results

By Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted, WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) defeated a constantly clinching #8 WBO challenger Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany. If Murray would have stopped clinching 24/7, he would have had a chance to win the fight. But it was a huge mistake on Murray’s part to use clinching as a tactic in the fight because it was painfully obvious that he was interrupting the flow of the fight with his constant grabbing and holding.

Martin Murray doomed against Arthur Abraham

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: I hate to completely rule out a victory for #8 WBO Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) for his fight tonight against WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs), but I just don’t see how on Earth that the light hitting 33-year-old Murray is going to be able to win this fight at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

For Murray to have a chance to win, he’ll need to stop running and stand his ground and beat Abraham in a dog fight. But without the needed punching power or chin to fight that kind of fight, Murray is going into battle with six empty chambers in the cylinder.

Froch: Abraham will be a hard fight for Martin Murray

1-abraham murray (2)By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Carl Froch expects #10 WBO Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) to have a really difficult time trying to beat WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

Froch believes that it’s a winnable fight for the 33-year-old Murray, but still a hard one potentially due to Abraham’s punching power. Froch thinks that Murray needs to outwork the 35-year-old Abraham to have a chance of winning the fight. In other words, Murray needs to try and do what Paul Smith attempted in his first fight by Abraham by being the busier fighter, and then hoping that the judges will ignore Abraham’s much more powerful shots in order to win a decision.
