Golovkin 158.9, Murray 159.9 – Weights

1-GGGMurrayWeighInBy Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) and his opponent Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) made weight for their fight this Saturday night at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo. Golovkin weighed in at 158.9 pounds and looked in superb shape as usual.

Golovkin looks very close to his fighting weight. As for Murray, he weighed in at 159.9 pounds and he looked a little emaciated. Murray is expected to rehydrate into the 170s. As big as Murray looked a month ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if he rehydrated into the 180s. We’re probably looking at Murray coming into the fight with at least a 10 pound weight advantage over Golovkin when the two fighters step inside the ring on February 21st.

Golovkin and middleweight division primed to take over boxing in 2016

YouTube video

By Sizzle JKD: Here’s the bottom line: the middleweight division is the best division in boxing and Gennady Golovkin is primed to take over the division by 2016.

Why is the 160-pound division the best in boxing? Let’s start with Golovkin.

At 31-0 with 28 KO’s, Golovkin is arguably the most feared fighter in the sport. He has defeated his last 18 opponents by knockout, and his resume isn’t too shabby either. He has an impressive win against Marco Antonio Rubio, who knocked out another feared fighter in the division, David Lemieux, a few years ago.

Golovkin targeting to return in May 2015

Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Al Hart/HBO) By DA: Tom Loeffler of K2 promotions is interested in getting his fighter WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) back in the ring as soon as possible after his fight against England’s Martin Murray is taken care of this Saturday night on February 21st in Monte Carlo.

That’s assuming everything goes well for Golovkin in this fight and he adds another knockout victim or perhaps an unlikely unanimous decision. The target month for Golovkin’s next fight is May of this year, against whom is the question.

Prediction: Golovkin stops Murray by 5th round!

Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Will Hart/HBO) By Dominic Panaia: Rarely in boxing are we over awed by the talent we see whilst in the moment of today. We are looking at a fighter with not only the handsome good looks of a young distinguished actor or pop singer but the ferociousness of a lion stalking its prey.

Let’s take a look at Gennady Golovkin and where he stands today at his age and where he’s going compared to some of the great middleweight fighters of his time. (I chose to not add Sugar Ray Robinson as no one can quite compare)
At 32 yrs old with eleven defenses of his WBA Middleweight title, 31 fights with no losses and 28 KO’s, this is a fabulous record for a fighter of any era. Except for the fact that over the course of at least 5 decades we have witnessed some of the greatest middleweights to ever lace up gloves.

Martin Murray says he won’t be nice guy with Golovkin on Saturday night

Martin Murray: I will beat Golovkin

Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Will Hart) By Scott Gilfoid: While WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) was taking it easy today during his press conference to promote his fight on Saturday night, his opponent Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) was working hard to intimidate Golovkin and show the fans in attendance that he’s not just going to be the sacrificial lamb coming over from the UK to be slaughtered by Golovkin on Saturday, February 21st in Monte Carlo.

Murray may end up getting smashed to bits by Golovkin, but he’s not going to let him see him sweat before they get to that point by showing fear.

Golovkin looking beyond Murray, wants Lee-Quillin winner or Froch

Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Will Hart/HBO) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovin is facing #1 WBC Martin Murray this Saturday night in Monte Carlo, but already Golovkin is looking past Murray towards bigger fights against the winner of the April 11th fight between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee and Peter Quillin.

Golovkin also is interested in facing WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch if he can get him to agree to the fight. In both cases, we’re probably looking at 2016 before any of those fights can take place.

Golovkin arrives in Monte Carlo for Martin Murray fight

golovkin88888(Photo credit: K2 Promotions) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin arrived in Monte Carlo on Monday to get ready for his fight this Saturday night on February 21st against No.1 WBC contender Martin Murray for their fight at the Salle des Etoiles. Unlike some fighters, Golovkin felt that he didn’t need the extra time to get acclimated to being in a new environment.

While some fighters like to arrive two weeks ahead of time for their fights in a different country, Golovkin was fine in arriving just five days ahead of time.
