Deontay Wilder: I’m stronger and more athletic than Malik Scott

deontay5465By Scott Gilfoid: While his important fight against Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) is still two months away, unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) is already discussing the March 15th match-up with him scheduled at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The 6’7″ Deontay has already sparred with Malik in the past in getting IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko ready for one of his important fights against Mariusz Wach.

Deontay got a feel for Scott’s power, and he came away impressed with his skills, but also feeling like he had the edge in the power and hand speed department,. Deontay freely admits that Malik had more skills than him, but he feels that his advantages in speed and power more than offset Malik’s sills advantage.

Malik Scott confirms Deontay Wilder fight in March

chisora106By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight talent Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) has confirmed that he’ll be facing unbeaten knockout artist Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) next March in a fight that could take place on March 15th. The fight makes sense for both fighters. Deontay, #3 WBC, #4 WBO, #5 WBA, #12 IBF, keeping busy while waiting for the dust to clear between the fight between Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne in April for the vacant WBC heavyweight title.

Deontay makes no secret to his desire to face the winner of that fight. Of course, Deontay wouldn’t turn down a title shot from IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko if that fight were offered to him before then.

Chisora’s TKO win over Malik Scott will stand

chisora101By Scott Gilfoid: The British Boxing Board of Control has decided not to review the July 20th fight between Britain’s Dereck Chisora vs. Malik Scott despite the appeal made by Scott’s promoter due to the referee halting the fight on the count of 9 instead of the count 10 in the 6th round, according to Dan Rafael.

Robert Smith, the general secretary of the BBB of C, says that in British rules a fighter is still considered down even if he’s rising at the count of 9. They still see him as being down.

Malik Scott’s team looking for loss to Chisora changed to “No Contest”

chisora500By Scott Gilfoid: Dan Goosen, the promoter for American heavyweight Malik Scott (35-1-1, 12 KO’s), is appealing to the British Board of Control to have Scott’s 6th round knockout loss to Britain’s Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KO’s) overturned and changed to a “No contest” due to the fight being ruled a knockout instead of a technical knockout.

For a fight to be ruled a knockout, a full 10 count has to be administered. In this case, Goosen saw referee Phil Edwards make a blunder by stopping the fight on a 9 count instead of a 10 count, as Scott was on his feet at the count of 9.

Byrd: Chisora has a question mark next to his win over Malik Scott

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight world champion Chris Byrd thinks the referee Phil Edwards did a “horrible” job of refereeing the Dereck Chisora vs. Malik Scott fight last Saturday night in the UK, and Byrd feels that a question mark is now hanging over Chisora’s win due to the referee stopping the fight in the 6th round at the count of 9 after Scott had been knocked down.

Chisora not getting much credit for win over Malik Scott

chisora500By Scott Gilfoid: Referee Phil Edwards’ controversial stoppage of the Dereck Chisora vs. Malik Scott fight last night in the 6th round has left a sour taste in the mouth of many boxing fans, and it’s also had the end result of keeping the 29-year-old Chisora for getting the credit that he might otherwise have received.

Edwards stopped the fight at the count of 9 last Saturday night in the 6th, just as Scott was getting up after being knocked down. It looked like Edwards jumped ahead 1 number in his count and mistook 9 for being 10.

No one is perfect, but it definitely hurt Chisora because Scott wasn’t hurt at the time and he was taking a knee after having been brained by a rabbit punch to the back of the head, which Edwards should have seen and waived off the knockdown.

Warren wants Deontay Wilder for Chisora’s next fight on September 21st

wilder52By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Frank Warren is hoping to get American heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) to come over to the UK to fight Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KO’s) for his next fight date on September 21st at the Copperbox Arena in London, UK.

However, I’m not sure that the 6’7” Deontay will be able to leave the country at this early date. He has a few things he needs to take care of before he can be flying to places like the UK.

Warren said this as quoted by Steve Kim, “We want Deontay Wilder next for our show on September 21st in the Copperbox Arena if he’s got the balls to do it.”
