Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne this Saturday night in Grozny

Image: Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne this Saturday night in GroznyBy Jim Dower: #2 WBA Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) will be challenging for the title this Saturday night against WBA World heavyweight champion Ruslan “White Tyson” Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) in a fight at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia. This is a big deal for the 36-year-old Browne because he’s wanted to fight for a world title since he turned pro seven years ago in 2009.

Browne is finally getting a chance and he wants to make the most of this opportunity. At 6’5”, 255lbs, Browne has the size and the punching power to get the 36-year-old Chagaev out of there quick if the Russian fighter decides he wants to stand and trade with him.

Knowing Chagaev, he likely will accommodate Browne by looking to slug with him. If Browne catches Chagaev with anything big in the early going, then we could see Chagaev start to box so that he doesn’t get hit with anything too big.

Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne still scheduled for March 5

MDR-160612-Browne-v-Rasani-19By Scott Gilfoid: Despite the rumors that have been floating around the internet about the title fight between WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) and #2 WBA Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) being off, Hatton Promotions is reporting that the fight is still on for March 5 at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia.

It seems that false rumors sprung up on social media over the weekend, making some boxing fans believe the fight is off.

Well, that’s a load off my mind. I mean, I’m not all that interested in the Chagaev-Browne title fight because I don’t see Chagaev as the true heavyweight champion in the division. Heck, I don’t even see Chagaev as the third best heavyweight.

Dillian Whyte can beat Anthony Joshua, says Browne

whyte5By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Lucas Browne believes that undefeated heavyweight prospect Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) has the kind of talent and punching power in his arsenal for him to defeat undefeated No.2 WBC heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) when the two of them face each other in December in what will be a grudge match.

Joshua and Whyte have had a lot of words with one another ever since Whyte beat Joshua in the amateur ranks in knocking him down twice. Whyte whipped Joshua bad in that fight in 2009, and him falling on the canvas and against the ropes like a rag doll. Joshua was able to come back and win a gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics, but it was a controversial gold medal with many boxing fans thinking that Joshua lost to Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle in the finals and against Cuba’s Erislandy Savon in his first match. I had Joshua losing all four fights in the Olympics.

Lucas Browne to face 7-foot Julius Long on August 14th

MDR-160612-Browne-v-Rasani-19By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (22-0, 19 KOs) has yet another replacement opponent for his August 14th fight at The Melbourne Pavilion, Flemington, Victoria.

Instead of facing Icho Larenas, the 36-year-old Browne will be fighting 38-year-old journeyman Julius Long (16-18, 14 KOs). Larenas couldn’t take the fight because of legal problems, according to Fight news. For Browne, he’s really dipping low into the 3rd tier for this fight, and you’ve got to wonder where the gain is for Browne?

Whyte interested in Lucas Browne or Erkan Teper for his September 12th fight

whyte7By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight talent Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) says he’d like to face unbeaten Lucas Browne (22-0, 19 KOs) or EBU heavyweight champion Erkan Teper (15-0, 10 KOs) for his next fight a month from now on September 12th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Whyte, 6’4”, 250lbs, needs a good test to get him ready for his fight in December against unbeaten Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) in London.

Whyte doesn’t want a soft job for his next fight because he needs someone who can give him some rounds like Browne or Teper.

“I would love to fight Browne on the 12th of next month be a good fight,” Whyte said on his Twitter.
