By Allan Fox: Andre Ward could soon be facing middleweight Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in the near future if Ward beats IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev in their fight on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view. That’s what ESPN First Take commentator Max Kellerman sees happening. He believes that we’re going to see Golovkin step up and face Ward if he defeats Kovalev. However, for that fight to happen, Golovkin would need to likely move up two entire divisions to fight Ward at 175, because the 32-year-old former super middleweight champion says it’s too hard for him to fight at super middleweight at this point his career.

“Eventually that’s the fight [Ward vs. Golovkin] you’re going to get if Ward wins that fight,” said Kellerman on ESPN’s First Take.

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev and former super middleweight champion Andre Ward will be fighting on November 19, on HBO pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva, and Ward’s promoters at Roc Nation Sports have both requested the November 19 date with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), and they both want the T-Mobile Arena venue, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. However, the Ward and Kovalev will both need to win their interim fights in order for them to face each other on the November 19 date.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward possible for November 19

Image: Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward possible for November 19By Dan Ambrose: If Andre Ward gets past Sullivan Barrera next month on Marcy 26, he’ll be facing IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on November 19. That’s the working date for the Kovalev-Ward fight, according to Dan Rafael.

Ward has to get past the hard hitting Barrera first in their fight on HBO PPV. There’s also the possibility that Ward will be taking another fight before the Kovalev fight, as it looks like HBO isn’t counting Ward’s pull out from last November as his first fight of his three-fight contract with them.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward in play for November 19 on HBO

ward4By Dan Ambrose: The proposed date for the HBO pay-per-view fight between IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs) and Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) is November 19. However, Ward will need to win his next fight against unbeaten Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) on March 26 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Kovalev doesn’t have a fight scheduled yet after his second win over Jean Pascal last January. Kovalev will need to fight again unless he wants to wait for Ward’s fight against Barrera to get done next month and go straight into that fight.

Ward is going by the impression that he his fight against Barrera will be his first fight of his three-fight contract with HBO rather than his second fight.

Andre Ward looking forward to Sergey Kovalev clash

ward7By Allan Fox: Former WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) confirms that he will be looking to fight IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev later on this year. This is a fight that Ward really wants to take, as he is interested in creating a legacy for himself as a great fighter.

The only way for him to do that is to take on the best guys in the sport. Ward moved up from super middleweight after looking at the limited amount of potential fights in that division for him. Once Carl Froch retired from the sport, it left Ward with few options for big fights at 168. This helped him make a decision to move up to 175 so that could go after guys like Kovalev.
