By William Mackay: Despite WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan 24-1, 17 KO’s) saying he wanted to become a big star in the United States, he’s fighting on Saturday in the UK against a lesser known fighter named Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s), who isn’t even a star in the UK. If Khan gets by McCloskey, which is probable given McCloskey’s slow hand speed and lack of power, Khan says he wouldn’t mind fighting his next bout in the UK as well against WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Khan vs. McCloskey
UK boxing Weekly (Edition 6): Khan-McCloskey, More!
By Adam Fillingham
Last weekend
Unfortunately through no fault of my own (damn virgin media) I could not whiteness the fight last weekend between Stuart hall and John Donnelly. Here is a list of the results from the card;
Khan says he thought the McCloskey fight would be massive and people would support it
By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) seems confused in a recent article in discussing the lack of interest in his upcoming fight against Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s) on Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England. Khan thought that boxing fans would want to see him fight the little known McCloskey after Khan’s exciting fight against Marcos Maidana last December.
Boxing has changed, you can’t con us now
By Ben James: The title of this piece is slightly misleading. Of course boxing has changed in the past few years but not as much as the attitude, expectation and intelligence of its fan base.
In defense of Paul McCloskey: Is he another hand-picked opponent for Khan or has he earned a title shot?
By Marius McDaid: Here’s my take on Paul McCloskey:
1- McCloskey is little known
Since when does that mean that he isn’t worthy of fighting for the World Title? Also he has been the British Champion and the European Champion, so he is known by the boxers in his division and the governing bodies, you know those people that actually matter.
Schaefer says Khan is boxing’s next true super star and commands PPV billing
By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) isn’t a huge star in the United States right now and the chances are high that he never will be. The bar is set high in the U.S., as American fans like fighters that mix it up like Marcos Maidana and Manny Pacquiao rather than fighters that run around the ring all night playing hit and run.
Hearn doubts Khan-McCloskey will get even 5000 PPV buys on Primetime
By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) may have shot himself in the foot by moving this Saturday’s fight against Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s) from Sky Sports 3 to Primetime Pay-per-view. Eddie Hearn, the promoter for McCloskey, thinks it was a bad move by Khan, calling it “Commercial suicide,” according to the telegraph.co.uk. By moving from Sky to Primetime, Khan may have burned his bridges with Sky and be stuck with Primetime.
Khan says he’s giving his UK fans McCloskey because he promised them a big fight
By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) left the UK to make it big in the United States, but after only two wins over Paulie Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana, Khan is back this Saturday against Ireland’s Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s) in a fight at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England. Khan says the McCloskey fight is the big fight that he promised his British fans. A big fight? McCloskey?
Moving Khan-McCloskey to Primetime PPV may hurt Khan in the long term
By Dallan O’ Donnell: Amir Khan’s decision to change broadcasters for his WBA light Welterweight title defence against Paul McCloskey from Sky Sports to Primetime will damage Khans reputation with fight fans in the UK. Sky had down-graded the bout from PPV to broadcasting the fight on Sky Sports 3 meaning a huge loss in television rights for Khan reportedly about £1 Million.

By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) is looking to defeat his hand-picked opponent Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s) in an impressive overwhelming performance on Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England.
