McCloskey could still land Khan fight next year, says Shah

Image: McCloskey could still land Khan fight next year, says ShahBy William Mackay: Light welterweight Paul McCloskey (24-2, 12 KO’s) didn’t luck out in getting a rematch against Amir Khan in December like he was hoping to get, but he still has a chance of getting a fight with him in 2013, says Khan’s father Shah Khan. McCloskey lost to Khan last year in April when McCloskey suffered a cut over his left eye from an accidental head clash in the 6th round in that fight. The ringside door then quickly halted the fight despite the fact that the cut really wasn’t all that bad looking when examined after the fight.

In an interview at the Londonderrysentinel.co.uk, Shah Khan said “It’s [Khan vs. McCloskey rematch] still a possibility for the future. It was absolutely a fight that Amir might have kept with Paul if the fight was in the UK, not problem, but because he is in America we have a Mexican opponent [Carlos Molina] instead.”

Kell Brook: Khan’s performance was amateurish against McCloskey

By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) wasn’t impressed with the performance from WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) in his recent 6th round technical decision victory over Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) on April 16th. Brook, who is currently ranked #2 by the WBO and one of the best fighters in the welterweight division, described Khan’s performance as “amateurish” against McCloskey and felt that boxing fans didn’t see a good fight. Brook thinks that Khan doesn’t want any part of fighting him.

Khan beat McCloskey, its time people get over it

By Richard Doyle: Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) is a great fighter one in which I do admire with a fighting style much like that of the once great Prince Naseem and over the last few years I’ve been able to watch most of his big fights on sky sports and although I have much respect for him I never saw him winning the fight with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) even before a bell was rung.

McCloskey has a lot to be proud of

By Scott Gilfoid: Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 Ko’s) gave it his best shot in his fight with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) last Saturday night, making Khan hit air for most of the fight and tiring him out by the 6th. Had the fight continued into the second half, I have no doubts that McCloskey would have had an excellent chance of tapping Khan on the chin and knocking him out.
