Khan-Maidana: Amir is willing to put his belt on the line

maidana358811By Peter Wells: Despite what other writers are saying mainly Liam Santiago, Khan is willing to fight Marcos Maidana next year. The an article by the Telegraph, Amir Khan said that he is willing to fight, Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez and Victor Ortiz. Personally I wouldn’t like to see Ricky fight again, being a big Hatton fan I’d prefer he not take the rick. Marquez isn’t a particularly good option for Khan, ever since Marquez lost to Mayweather, everybody thinks Marquez is washed up and a fighter like Khan could finish him off.

But that’s wrong because Marquez did have to move 10lbs, and Mayweather was the best boxer alive before retiring. So Marquez isn’t finished at all and would probably beat Khan easily. Maidana is a great fight for him, it could really make or break him, a bit like Victor Ortiz, but unfortunately for Ortiz it kind of broke him. But Khan probably wouldn’t make the same mistakes, and Victor showed us that Marcos hasn’t got a great chin either. So if Khan could stop Maidana and make sure he didn’t get floored himself he would finally send out a statement.

Unfortunately for Khan beating Salita proved nothing except he can knock out a half decent fighter in very quick time, by overwhelming him with speed. So now it’s time to step it up a gear, it would be foolish to fight Juan Manuel first, he has a whole division to take care of first, and there are many fighters that would be great opponents for the near future. Light Welterweight is a very crammed division and fights with Nate Campbell, Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson, Victor Ortiz are all great future opponents, but maybe he might not beat all of them, and as long as he doesn’t huddle up and start from the beginning again, he should be able to take every decent fighter in the division. I’d love to see him fight all of them, but it is doubtful that will happen, especially when there are bigger money fights out there, that he will either win with ease or be completely embarrassed.

So we should see that WBA belt still with Amir for some time, and the only way he won’t have it is if he loses, not vacates it because he’s scared of fighting top class opposition. If Khan does decide to vacate the title it will be something he will deeply regret because some day he’ll have to fight those who he fears most.
