Marco Antonio Barrera wants to fight Khan before retiring

Image: Marco Antonio Barrera wants to fight Khan before retiringBy William Mackay: Former three division world champion Marco Antonio Barrera (67-7, 44 KO’s) is interested in avenging his defeat at the hands of Amir Khan from 2009 before retiring from the sport. Barrera, now 38, is still bothered that he lost by a 5th round technical decision to Khan in a fight where Barrera was cut badly from a headbutt in the opening round and the fight was allowed to go on just long enough for it not to be called a no contest.

Khan Not Interested in Fighting Barrera Again

khan54346By Jim Dower: In news that doesn’t shock me one bit, British lightweight Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) isn’t interested in fighting Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) again. This after beating the former super featherweight champion Barrera by a 5th round technical decision on March 14th, a fight in which Barrera was cut badly on the upper forehead in the 1st round. The fight was allowed to continue by the ringside doctor until the 5th, at which point it was stopped, giving Khan, 22, the victory.

Will Khan Give Barrera a Rematch? Don’t Bet on it!

khan3233524By Chris Williams: Lightweight Amir Khan’s (20-1, 15 KOs) 5th round stoppage victory over former boxing great Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) on March 14th at the M.E.N Arena on March 14 in Manchester, England, is looking more and more tainted by the day. Though Khan won apparently in a convincing manner, Barrera was hampered by a big cut on his left portion of his scalp that occurred with one minute to go in the 1st round against Khan.

As Soon as Khan Steps It Up Again, He Loses

khan44554By Scott Gilfoid: Maybe I’m one of the few writers that see Amir Khan’s (20-1, 16 KOs) 5th round stoppage win over the cut up Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) as being an empty one, because the victory was an empty gesture. Khan was faster and better than Barrera, showing that he could beat Marco after he was cut from a head butt. Many people already though that Khan would be too fast for Barrera going into the fight and it was hardly revealing that he was able to dominate the smaller Barrera.

Amir Khan v Marco Antonio Barrera – Khan TD5

khan534563By James Hughes: Amir Khan put in a composed performance to defeat ring-legend Marco Antonio Barrera by a 5th round technical decision in the main event at the M.E.N. Arena (Manchester, England). Khan’s youth was a sizeable factor in the outcome, as was a nasty cut to Barrera from an accidental clash of heads in the opening round. Khan’s great handspeed and good footwork allowed him to get in and out of range, enabling him to land combinations almost at will, (which he did so accurately), while an old-looking Barrera whose vision was hampered by the continual flow of blood, could not get near his younger, faster and stronger challenger.

Does Khan’s Stock Go Up If He Beats Barrera?

khan435656By Sean McDaniel: Whether lightweight Amir Khan (19-1, 15 KOs) realizes it or not, he probably stands more to lose if things go wrong for him on Saturday night against Marco Antonio Barrera (65-6, 43 KOs). After all, Khan is 22, at the start of his career and still is hoping to make a name for himself in the professional boxing world. In the case of Barrera, he has already made his fortune, won numerous titles as a featherweight and super featherweight and is at the end of his career.
