By Chris Williams: In looking over lightweight Amir Khan’s March 14th fight against veteran former champion Marco Antonio Barrera, I see the decked pretty much stacked against the 35-year-old Barrera, putting him in an almost no win situations. Certainly, Barrera has the advantage in experience over the young 22-year-old Khan, and a better chin than him, but that’s really about it.

Lightweight boxer Jon Thaxton has described Amir Khan’s upcoming bout against seven time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera as “a fantastic bit of match making”. Khan takes on Barrera at Manchester’s MEN Arena on Saturday 14th March. But Thaxton questioned what Khan had done to get such a high profile opponent. Tyson Fury, British boxing’s biggest new star, has taken on a risky second professional fight at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan on Saturday, 17th January against an opponent who has won 20 of his 21 wins by stoppage with only three losses. Former ABA champion Fury (Manchester) made an excellent debut when he stopped Bela Gyongyosi with a body shot in the first round in Nottingham last month.

By Jim Dower: Amir Khan is looking to erase the sting of defeat from his stoppage loss to Breidis Prescott by fighting Marco Antonio Barrera on March 14th. If Khan can win, he may partially rehabilitate his name with some fans and make a big step forward in the lightweight division. Certainly, Khan’s last fight, a 2nd round TKO over little known Oisin Fagan in December, did little to ease the pain of his 1st round loss to Prescott.
