By Jim Dower: Former super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna (35-2-1, 23 KOs) was injured after he dove out of the ring tonight in his fight against light welterweight Adrian Granados (18-6-2, 11 KOs) in the final seconds of round 4, causing the referee to rule it a no contest at The Fortuna at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

In the toughest of his career, he hasn’t looked past Javier Fortuna. The media has done enough of that for him. Easter isn’t a big talker, he engages just enough to promote himself, and elevate the interest level of the fight. He has been pumping unification since he earned the strap from the IBF in 2016. Both guys made it clear, they’d rather be squaring off with Mikey Garcia. They’re going to have to get on line. On Saturday, they’ll be in the ring together, and looking to make a statement.
By Jeff Aranow: IBF World lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. will be defending title on January 20 against former WBA super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna on the undercard of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Lamont Peterson fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
By Jim Dower: #8 WBA Jason Sosa (19-1-4, 15 KOs) put in a great performance in defeating WBA World super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna (29-1-1, 21 KOs) by an 11th round knockout last Friday night at the Capital Gym, in Beijing, China. Sosa, 28, knocked Fortuna down twice in dropping him in the 10th and 11th rounds.
The fight was stopped by referee Raul Caiz Jr. in the 11th after Sosa had knocked Fortuna down with a big left hook to the head followed by two hard right hands. Fortuna, 26, made it back to his feet, but the referee Caiz Jr. decided to halt the fight anyway after seeing how hurt Fortuna was.
The official time of the stoppage was at 0:45 of round 11. Immediately after the fight was stopped, Fortuna was staggering around and seemingly in need of help by Caiz Jr. It’s good thing that the fight was halted, because Sosa would have flattened the badly hurt Fortuna with the amount of time remaining in the round.

By Jim Dower: In a one-sided mismatch from start to finish, WBA World super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KOs) stopped 31-year-old Puerto Rican Carlos Ivan Velasquez (19-2, 12 KOs) in the 10th round on Tuesday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports 1 at the Palms Casino and Resort, Pearl Theater, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The 5’5” Fortuna recently captured the vacant WBA 130lb title last May in beating an over-matched Bryan Vasquez by a 12 round unanimous decision in New York at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Fortuna-Vasquez fight was supposed to have been a competitive affair, but Vasquez was too slow of hand and foot to do much against the much faster 26-year-old Fortuna.
