Quillin: A fight against Golovkin comes at a cost

Daniel Jacobs and Peter QuillinBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBO middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs) says he’s open to facing unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in a fight, but he wants to be well-paid for him to agree to the fight.

Quillin says he’s absolutely unafraid of fighting Golovkin because he’s already sparred with him before, and he’s willing to battle him. However, for that fight to take place, Quillin says it’s going to cost to get him agree to taking the fight. Just how much money it’s going to cost to lure Quillin into accepting the fight is unknown.

Lara wants Jacobs-Quillin winner

quillin(Photo Credit: Anthony Causi) By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara is picking challenger Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs) to defeat WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night on Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Lara feels that it’s going to be a competitive fight for the most part, but he sees Quillin ultimately winning because of his better experience against quality opposition. Lara would like to move up to 160 to face winner of the fight. Lara isn’t just targeting the winner of the Quillin vs. Jacobs fight.

Jacobs-Quillin: Will winner face Golovkin?

quillinBy Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) will be facing unbeaten former WBO 160lb champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs) in the battle of Brooklyn this Saturday night on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

What will be interesting about the Jacobs-Quillin fight is if the winner of the contest will agree to fight undefeated IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) so that they can attempt to capture the real WBA title instead of having to hold the minor strap, which you can argue is little more than an interim belt rather than the real thing.

algieri5By Dan Ambrose: Former world title challenger Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) will be fighting an opponent still to be determined on the December 5th Daniel Jacobs vs. Peter Quillin card on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. There’s talk of a potential bout against 44-year-old “Sugar” Shane Mosley.

It would be a good fight if it happens on this card. Mosley recently made a comeback after two years out of the ring and fought well in beating Ricardo Mayorga by a 6th round knockout last August at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Jacobs: Quillin is slow and loads up too much

Image: Jacobs: Quillin is slow and loads up too much(Photo credit: Ed Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Tim Fletcher: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) has sized up his unbeaten opponent former WBO 160lb champ Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs), and he knows what he’s getting himself into in their fight on December 5th on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Jacobs sees flaws in the 32-year-old Quillin’s game that he feels that are areas that he can take advantage of when the two of them start trading shots for real. Jacobs notes that Quillin is slow on his feet, and focuses too much on loading up on his shots with everything he has.

Jacobs – Quillin on 12/5

quillinBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBO 160lb champion Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs) will be challenging WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) on December 5th in a fight televised by Showtime Championship Boxing in the “Battle of Brooklyn” from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This is officially a title fight, but it’s difficult to see this as involving a real title rather than one of the minor trinkets. The World Boxing Association fouls things up by having three world champions at 160, and none of them are considered to be in the class of Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
