Jacobs-Quillin averages only 386K viewers on Showtime

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter QuillinBy Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday night’s card between WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) brought in really low viewing numbers on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. According to Dan Rafael, the Jacobs-Quillin fight averaged a pitiful 386,000 viewers with a peak of 408,000 viewers on Showtime.

The fight ended in a 1st round knockout with Jacobs blasting Quillin out, but the viewing numbers still should have been better than that if there was any fan interest in the middleweight contest.

Peter Quillan vs. Daniel Jacobs Aftermath

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter QuillinBy Matthew J. Hunter: It took less than a round for the Battle of Brooklyn to be decided when Jacobs landed a thunderous straight right that had Quillin wobbled and backing up to the ropes. From that point to the end of the fight, Jacobs unloaded everything he had at a dazed and confused Quillin tried to tie Jacobs up.

After a couple right hands landed flush on Quillin, he almost went down and the referee, sensing Quillin was out on his feet, stopped the fight.

Mayweather thinks Jacobs-Quillin fight was halted prematurely

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks that referee Harvey Dock prematurely halted last Saturday night’s middleweight clash between WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Qullin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) by stopping the fight in the 1st round after Quillin was staggered badly by Jacobs.

Mayweather thinks the fight should have been allowed to continue despite the fact that Jacobs was pounding a near defenseless Quillin at will with punches.

Jacobs wants the best, doesn’t mention Golovkin

jacobs66676677(Photo credit: Edward Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Tim Fletcher: WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) picked up a career best win last night with a 1st round stoppage win over Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) in Brooklyn, New York. After the fight, Jacobs said he now wants to face the best in the 160lb division.

Jacobs mentioned Andy Lee, Billy Joe Saunders, Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as fighters that he sees as the best. But for some reason, Jacobs skipped over Gennady Golovkin’s name when mentioning the guys that he’s interested in fighting.

Peter Quillin: The referee was doing his job in stopping it

jacobs4454(Photo credit: Edward Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Dan Ambrose: Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) says he has no problems whatsoever with referee Harvey Dock stopping his fight against WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) in the 1st round last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

There was a bit of controversy surrounding the quick stoppage of the fight by the referee Dock, because a lot of boxing fans felt that Quillin was in good enough shape for the fight to be allowed to continue after Quillin had been badly staggered by two huge punches from Jacobs.

Jacobs wants Andy Lee unification fight

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA “regular” middleweight title champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) made easy work of #5 WBA Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) last Saturday night in turning back his threat in an easy 1st round TKO victory in another round of the “battle of Brooklyn” at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. We already had the “Battle of Brooklyn” fight take place two years ago with the Paulie Malignaggi vs. Zab Judah mismatch that took place in December 2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, last night’s fight between Jacobs and Quillin turned out to be even more of a mismatch in the “battle of Brooklyn” part 2.

Quillin, 32, fought like a fighter in his 40s. The 28-year-old Jacobs proved to be the much younger fighter and clearly the more intelligent of the two in taking out Quillin with a storm of punches after hurting him with a right hand to the head. Quillin could have possibly saved himself if he had the sense enough to take a knee or clinch Jacobs to ride out the storm, but he foolishly chose to fire back with wild shots until the referee Harvey Dock stopped the mismatch at 1:25 of the round.

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Tim Fletcher: Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) had a bad night at the office tonight in losing by a 1st round knockout defeat to WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) in a fight that was over within 85 seconds at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Quillin came into the fight feeling that he would have too much for Jascobs to handle, but it ended up being Jacobs who had too much for Quillin to deal within this fight. To give one an indication of how one-sided the fight was, Quillin landed exactly 2 punches in the fight out of 16 thrown for a horrible connect percentage of 12%, according to CompuBox stats.

Jacobs: I’ll definitely give Quillin a rematch

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: It didn’t take very long for rematch talk to begin between Al Haymon fighters WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) following their fight tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Jacobs stopped Quillin by a somewhat controversial 1st round stoppage in front of 8,442 fans in their battle of Brooklyn.

Without a rematch, Jacobs would have to move on after this fight and face what could be a very difficult fight against the winner of the Gary O’Sullivan vs. Chris Eubank Jr. fight, but it looks like Jacobs and Quillin could wind up facing each other again in a second fight if their manager Al Haymon can smooth things over with the World Boxing Association to have an immediate rematch between them.
