Ludwigshafen, Germany (March 11, 2017)–Demetrius Andrade walked into the lions den and came out of it a two-time world champion with a 12-round split decision to capture the WBA Junior Middleweight world title over defending champion Jack Culcay in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Andrade was the superior boxer, who controlled the bout with his combination punching as he worked the body and then came upstairs to the head of Culcay. Andrade kept a solid distance with his jab, that thwarted Culcay’s oncoming rushes. It was a tough grueling battle as Culcay (22-2, 11 KO’s) tried to bull his way in, had some, but little success and, Andrade was consistently finishing off the exchanges with the prominent punches.

Lemieux-Stevens, Gamboa-Alvarado & Culcay-Andrade predictions

By Harry Rowland: This should be an exciting matchup with two come-forward punchers going head to head. This contest is not a title eliminator of any kind but is a crossroads fight. The winner aiming to stay relevant as a middleweight contender. Both fighters are slightly past their best but both still hungry to fulfil their previous potential.

Lemieux’s 36-3 (32) career was off to a fast start, notching up 25 straight wins, with all but one coming via knockout. Then he ran into veteran boxer Marco Antonio Rubio, who looked to be heading the same way as the others until he managed to weather the storm and expose Lemieux as somewhat of an on-top fighter, stopping him in 7 once he had emptied his tank.

Exclusive interview by Ian Aldous: This Saturday night, Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade (23-0) travels to Germany to challenge Jack Culcay (22-1), for the WBA world super-welterweight championship, live on Sky Sports 2HD in the UK. By Dan Ambrose: Next month, former WBO 154lb champ Demetrius Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs) will be fighting WBA “regular” junior middleweight champion Jack Culcay (22-1, 11 Kos) at the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The two fighters faced each other a decade ago in the amateur ranks in a fight that took place in Chicago, Illinois.

Culcay wasn’t happy with the way the judges scored the fight, because he felt he did better than the lopsided scoring reflected. Andrade won the fight by a 30-11 score. With the fight being in the amateur ranks, Culcay shouldn’t have been surprised at seeing such unusual scores, because that’s been a common theme.
