By Jim Dower: Unbeaten Demetius Andrade (23-0,16 KO) weighed in at 153.4 pounds on Friday for his title challenger this Saturday night on March 11 against WBA World junior middleweight champion Jack Culcay (22-1, 11 KOs) at the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, Ludwigshafen, Germany. Culcay weighed in at 153.2 lbs.

Both fighters looked good at the weigh-in. During the face off, the 6’1” Andrade towered over the 5’7” Culcay. The two fighters looked like they were from different weight classes. Culcay is so much shorter than Andrade, and he looks thinner as well.

Andrade will be the visiting fighter on Saturday night in Germany. One way for Andrade to make sure that he doesn’t end up on the losing end of a questionable decision would be for him to knockout Culcay. That’s not going to be easy because Culcay has a good chin, and he comes from an extensive amateur background. Never the less, Andrade needs to make sure that he makes the fight as one-sided as possible to avoid him winding up losing the fight. The crowd is going to be on Culcay’s favor, even though he’s from the Ecuador rather than Germany. Culcay lives in Germany, so he’ll be the home fighter for this one.

Culcay will need to take the fight to Andrade for him to have a chance of beating him. Andrade has a huge reach advantage in this fight that he can use to jab and pot shot Culcay from the outside all night long. That’s usually not Andrade’s style. He often stands at medium distance to his opponent and bangs away with them with big power shots to the head and body. Culcay will still need to keep constant pressure on Andrade for him to win this fight.

Andrade, 29, is looking to become a 2-time world champion. He previously held the World Boxing Organization 154 title. However, Andrade lost his WBO title after he failed to defend it for a one-year period. Andrade did little as the WBO champion, because he only defended the title once in beating Brian Rose in 2014.

Culcay has been beaten previous in the pro ranks by little known Guido Nicholas Pitto by a 12 round decision in 2013. Culcay avenged the loss the same year in winning a 12 round decision, but it was still a close fight.

Andrade beat Willie Nelson by a 12th round knockout in his last fight on June 11 last year. It was a one0-sided fight from start to finish with Andrade knocking Nelson down in rounds 1, 11 and two more times in the 12h.
