Haye-Bellew: Step too far for Bellew?

bellew97

By Iftisaam Khan: With the recent confirmation of the much-anticipated fight between Tony Bellew (31-28-2) and David Haye (20-28-2), there will certainly be a number of skeptics doubting the chances of the man they call the ‘Bomber’. Moving up to heavyweight will see Bellew in uncharted territory for the first time as he meets the ‘Hayemaker’ on the 4th march at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Going into the fight Bellew will be full of confidence coming off the back of an impressive performance against BJ Flores, in which he floored the American four times- including a devastating left hook to the body to close proceedings. The war of words officially began.

Bellew bellyaches about Haye punching him

bellew3

By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew seemed to lose his senses completely after David Haye appeared to take a shot at him with a left hook to the jaw at Wednesday’s press conference to hype their March 4 fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. Their fight will be televised on Sky Box Office pay-per-view in the UK.

You can argue that Bellew was asking for it when he pressed his face against Haye during the face-off between them. The next thing you know it, Haye throws a lighting fast punch and Bellew shoves him away. The security quickly stepped in to make sure the two fighters couldn’t get at each other.

Haye-Bellew is an even fight says Coldwell

1-haye-bellew

By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Dave Coldwell is talking about the March 4 fight between heavyweight David Haye and cruiserweight Tony Bellew being a 50-50 fight when the two of them meet each other on Sky Box Office pay-per-view at the O2 Arena in London, England. Coldwell talks about Haye being inactive for four years until recently, and not having had a real fight since his match against Dereck Chisora in 2012.

The way Coldwell sees it, Bellew vs. Haye is a toss-up fight where the winner could be decided by whichever fighter lands first. The boxing public doesn’t agree. They see the fight as a gross mismatch with Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) being far too good for Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs).

Haye: Bellew is cowering now

haye7

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight David Haye and Tony Bellew are signed for a fight on March 4th at the O2 Arena in London, England. The match-up between Haye and Bellew will be taking place at heavyweight rather than Haye’s old division at cruiserweight, because there is little chance that he could still make weight for the division at 36.

Haye notes that the 33-year-old Bellew was talking boldly about him before they signed for the fight, but now that the fight is signed, he sees him as cowering because he knows what’s in store for him on March 4.

Watch: David Haye – Tony Bellew Trade Insults – Video

By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew will be moving up in weight to fight heavyweight contender David Haye in a dreadful mismatch on March 4 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Believe it or not, this horrible Haye vs. Bellew match-up will be televised on Sky Box Office pay-per-view for the British fans to pay to see it.

The 33-year-old Bellew hasn’t even proven that he’s the 10th best fighter in the cruiserweight division, and now he’s moving up to heavyweight to fight the 36-year-old Haye (26-2, 24 KOs). I see Bellew lasting all of two rounds against Haye before he’s put out of his misery. Bellew doesn’t belong in the same ring with Haye, and it’s going to be painfully obvious from the instead the fight starts in round one.

David Haye vs Tony Bellew!

David Haye and Tony Bellew will clash in a Heavyweight blockbuster at The O2 in London on March 4, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The big-hitting pair will finally settle their differences in the ring having clashed explosively on Sky Sports in Liverpool in October when Bellew defended his WBC World Cruiserweight title against BJ Flores, with the Liverpool star calling Haye out after knocking Flores out. Haye and Bellew exchanged angry words and had to be separated by security – but on March 4 there will be no parting them.

Hearn wants Haye vs. Bellew in January or February

hearn100

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s going to try and make a fight between his fighter WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew and heavyweight David Haye for January or February 2017. Bellew, 33, will be moving up to the heavyweight division to take the fight with Haye.

Presumably, the World Boxing Council will freeze Bellew’s cruiserweight title to save it for him rather than stripping him of his title, which you can argue they should do given that the contenders in the division would see their own careers frozen out of a title shot during that time.

Haye says Bellew fight could happen

haye5666

By Scott Gilfoid: Despite being offered a shot to fight for the WBO heavyweight title against the winner of the December 10 fight between Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz Jr., #4 WBO David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) says he’s ready to fight WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) if he seriously wants to make the fight.

Bellew, 33, seems to be VERY SERIOUS about wanting to fight Haye, and you can understand why. Bellew will probably never be in a better position than he is right now after his two recent wins over BJ Flores and Ilunga Makabu.

Bellew hasn’t had to fight any of the talented cruiserweights yet, so he’s currently what many boxing fans see as a paper champion in holding down the WBC strap. However, if Bellew doesn’t get the Haye – or some other high payday match – soon, he’s going to have to face his #1 WBC mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis. That’s a fight that will likely see Bellew knocked out and dethroned. I hate to say it, but Briedis is too good for Bellew, and I suspect that he knows that himself.

David Haye vs. Tony Bellew talks have started

bellew75

By Scott Gilfoid: British boxing fans will be pleased to learn that WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) and heavyweight contender David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) have reportedly begun talks for a fight between them in 2017. Bellew REALLY wants the Haye fight in the worst way. The interest that Bellew has in the Haye fight is a little too high in my opinion, because Bellew still hasn’t even proven himself as a good champion at cruiserweight.

Bellew only recently won the WBC title with a win over Ilunga Makabu last May. Instead of trying to fight guys like Haye in the heavyweight division, Bellew should be trying to establish himself as a good cruiserweight champion.

Bellew and Haye verbally spar

bellew000

By Adam Godfrey: A potential fight between recently returned British Heavyweight David Haye and current WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew must, according to Haye, take place at Heavyweight, if it is to occur at all. Haye has not fought at Cruiserweight for 8 years, and considering his advancing age and only recent return from retirement, it is unlikely that he’ll be able to come down to the 200lb weight limit without being severely weight-drained.

‘I’m not going to go back down to a less-glamorous division than the one I’m in now for a loud-mouthed guy like him’, Haye told Mirror Sport.
