Golovkin’s promoter wants Chavez Jr. at 168

golovkin85By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-4, 18 KO’s) may never get a fight against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or WBO champion Peter Quillin due to their reluctance to get in the ring with him, but it’s possible that we could see a fight between Golovkin and former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the near future.

That’s the opponent that Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions wants Golovkin to face, and he’s willing to have Golovkin move up in weight to the 168 lb. division to make the fight happen because Chavez Jr. obviously can’t make 160 lbs. anymore.

Golovkin defeats Stevens; Perez and Afolabi both win

golovkin562By Jim Dower: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) gave Curtis Stevens (25-4, 18 KO’s) a methodical beating on Saturday night in stopping him in an 8th round stoppage at Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York.

The fight was halted by Stevens’ corner after he’d taken an enormous amount of punishment in the 8th round. It was all one-way punishment with Stevens taking huge head and body shots while against the ropes for the entire round.

Golovkin knocked Stevens down with a hard left hook in the 2nd round. Stevens barely made it out of the round, as he was badly hurt when he got up at the count of 7. Golovkin stalked a timid looking Stevens in rounds 3 through 6 in punishing him with head and body shots.

Gennady Golovkin vs Curtis Stevens: Expects bombs

cid_2_963738041@web120201_mail_ne1_yahooBy Mark Havey: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) is the wrecking ball that has punched his way through the middleweight division. A strong case can be made for him being the most devastating puncher in the world. He is the classic punch them through a wall warrior and his power is frightening. A large portion of boxing fans tune in to watch spectacularly brutal knockouts. That is what we have come to expect with Gennady Golovkin. 24 of his 27 wins have ended in knockouts (89% KO ratio)

Curtis Stevens was an outstanding amateur achieving outstanding honors. It’s unfair to say he has been an unremarkable professional, but he has failed to live up to expectations. The biggest name of his record is a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Andre Dirrell. He is a decent puncher with 18 of his 25 wins coming by way of knockout.

Golovkin should have easy time against Stevens tonight

cid_3_973357841@web120202_mail_ne1_yahoo(Photo credit: HBO) By Allan Fox: The hardest part for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) is already over with him no longer having to endure listening to and reading the trash talking of his opponent Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) in getting ready for his fight tonight on HBO at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. Golovkin is done having to listen to Stevens and he can now go out and get rid of him once and for all in what should be a very easy fight for him.

That’s not to say that the 28-year-old Stevens isn’t a dangerous foe, because he does have excellent power. But Stevens is very small at 5’7″, and he’s more of a fringe contender in the middleweight division than a true top contender. This isn’t going to be a difficult fight for Golovkin, as Stevens has lost each time he’s stepped in up in his career against good opposition. Stevens is more at home beating up 2nd and 3rd tier opposition than in facing the cream of the division in Golovkin.

Golovkin vs. Stevens official weights

001-Golovkin-and-Stevens-IMG_5108By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) successfully weighed in for his fight tomorrow night against Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. The 5’10 1/2″ Golovkin weighed in at 159.6 lbs., and the 5’7″ Stevens came in at 159.25 lbs.

This could be the most difficult title defense for Golovkin since his war against Kassim Ouma in June of 2011. That fight was by far the toughest of Golovkin’s career as he took a lot of punishment from Ouma until finally stopping him in the 10th round.

Froch could be next for Golovkin after Stevens

Gennady Golovkin vs Curtis Stevens(Photos Courtesy: Will Hart/HBO) By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) could be the next victim for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) to destroy after he makes easy work of the 5’7″ Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA.

Froch wants the fight, his promoter Eddie Hearn wants the fight, and Golovkin is very interested in the fight as well. The only thing that could potentially get in the way of a Golovkin-Froch fight is if George Groves whips Froch next month in their fight on November 23rd at the Manchester Arena. That’s truly a toss-up fight, so I’m not counting on Froch winning anything until I see it happen. Right now, I see the younger Groves beating Froch and ruining any chances of him ever facing Golovkin.

Golovkin v Stevens: WBA Middleweight World Title

golovknin00001By Sevak Sarkisian: As every boxing fan is well aware of, this Saturday Gennady Golovkin (27-0 24ko’s) makes his return to the ring against middleweight contender Curtis Stevens (25-3 18ko’s). The fight will take place in Madison Square Garden and will be televised live on HBO.

Since bursting on to the American boxing scene last September against Proksa, Golovkin has captured the attention and imagination of American boxing fans. Golovkin has a fan friendly style and possesses serious power in both hands. He has the highest knockout ratio out of all the current champions in the sport. However, there are still many unanswered questions regarding how good of an all around fighter he is because he hasn’t fought top tier opposition yet in his career.

Today’s Duran vs. Leonard: Golovkin vs. Stevens

golovkin43On June 20th 1980, boxing fans were treated to what would be the beginning of a legendary rivalry by two of the most revered boxers of all-time. Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran treated the world to a fight no one would soon forget. For 15 rounds, the two traded and exchanged punches, combinations, and wits with the goal of proving their dominance in the sport.

Each man wanted to leave behind a legacy. Sugar looked to prove that he could stand toe to toe con las “Manos de Piedras” to show the world that he is not just a defensive and elusive boxer with a nice smile. Roberto Duran on the other hand, looked to break Leonard down and punish him to submission. Duran wanted to prove that he was the best in the world. On that night, Duran and Sugar gave fight fans a display of ruthless aggression and determination that would last a lifetime.

Sanchez: Golovkin to showcase his talent against Stevens this Saturday

bengggabel102813(Photo credit: K2 Promotions) By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) will be defending his title against the much shorter 5’7″ Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) this Saturday night on HBO at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. The fight has been advertised as being a competitive one, but for those fans who’ve seen Steven’s previous losses to Andre Dirrell and Jesse Brinkley in the past.

All they had to do was box the shorter-armed Stevens from the outside and he was helpless. The fights where Stevens has found success has been against guys that were willing to let him get close enough to throw his shots, and even then Stevens still has never beaten a good fighter before. It’s been largely 2nd and 3rd tier opposition.
