A strong case can be made for him being the most devastating puncher in the world. He is the classic punch them through a wall warrior and his power is frightening. A large portion of boxing fans tune in to watch spectacularly brutal knockouts. That is what we have come to expect with Gennady Golovkin. 24 of his 27 wins have ended in knockouts (89% KO ratio)

Curtis Stevens was an outstanding amateur achieving outstanding honors. It’s unfair to say he has been an unremarkable professional, but he has failed to live up to expectations. The biggest name of his record is a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Andre Dirrell. He is a decent puncher with 18 of his 25 wins coming by way of knockout.

Tonight both men will clash in a battle that promises and early end. Golovkin will put his WBA and IBO middleweight championships on the line. The historic Madison Square Garden is the venue.

I can’t see the fight last too long. Golovkin stopping his opponent in round 4 or 5 seems realistic. I certainly can’t see it going past the mid stages of the fight. Stevens has only been stopped once but the power of Golovkin will be something he has never experienced.

What will the future hold for Golovkin? Should he win this fight, and he should, big fights are out there for him. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is a possibility. Felix Sturm could be a big fight. But I think we would all like to see him face off against Sergio Martinez. They are both the top two middleweights in the world. that is a true match up of Champion vs Champion. Martinez has been known for getting dropped recently, so now is the time to get him.
