GBP interested in Saunders vs. Rosado for December

saunders43

By Scott Gilfoid: Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) turned down a fight against Gabriel Rosado for the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Liam Smith card for September 17. By doing so, Saunders appears to have been taken out of the running for a fight against Canelo for December. Golden Boy Promotions was interested in matching Saunders against their Golden Boy fighter Rosado on the Canelo-Smith card in order to possibly build up a fight between Canelo and Saunders for December.

Golden Boy still hasn’t given up on the idea of matching Rosado against Saunders for December if he’s willing to take the fight then. If not, then it’s unclear whether Saunders will ever get a fight against the popular Mexican star Canelo.

I’m not sure if it’s a conditional thing with Golden Boy that Saunders faces their fighter Rosado first in order to earn the fight against Canelo, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.

Rosado: I would have whipped Saunders

saunders5

By Scott Gilfoid: Gabriel Rosado says he doesn’t understand why Billy Joe Saunders didn’t agree to fight him on September 17. Saunders, who holds the WBO middleweight title, reportedly turned down a fight against #11 WBO Rosado (23-9, 13 KOs) for the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Liam Smith card at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The winner of the Saunders vs. Rosado fight then would have had the chance to fight Canelo, who is promoted by the same Golden Boy promoters as Rosado. Golden Boy appeared to be setting Saunders in the driver’s seat for a fight against Canelo.

By Dan Ambrose: #13 WBC former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado (23-9, 13 KOs) reportedly is in the running for a fight against unbeaten WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Liam Smith card on September 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Golden Boy Promotions are looking to add Saunders to the undercard of the fight card with the possible idea of matching Canelo against him later this year in December or at some point in the near future.

Golden Boy wants to move Canelo up to middleweight soon, and a fight against Saunders is thought to be Canelo’s first at the full weight of 160 pounds.

1-CottoCaneloArrivals_Hoganphotos6By Dan Ambrose: Next week WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) will be meeting with the Golden Boy Promotions executives to try and pick out his next opponent. Canelo, 25, is taking a voluntary defense of his WBC title, and they need someone who is popular enough for him to fight on HBO pay-per-view.

According to bleacherreport.com, Willie Monroe Jr. and Gabriel Rosado are the two top candidates thus far. Golden Boy will continue to look at other fighters as well in the middleweight and junior middleweight divisions. Canelo will be fighting on May 7, on Cinco de Mayo holiday. It’s important for him to pick out a popular enough opponent to get fans interested in purchasing his fight on pay-per-view on HBO.

Rosado confident he’ll get Canelo fight

Rosado, 29, believes that he’ll either be facing Canelo in his next fight in May 2016 or at some point in the future, because both fighters share the same promoters at Golden Boy Promotions.

Rosado sees that as something that increases the chances for a Canelo-Rosado fight. He also thinks the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry is something that will interest Golden Boy in making the fight between them.

Rosado: Danny Garcia will blowout Robert Guerrero

garcia74By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off his win over the way past his best 35-year-old Paulie Malignaggi in August of this year, unbeaten #2 WBC welterweight contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) will be fighting next month on January 23rd against 32-year-old #6 WBC Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Garcia-Guerrero fight will be shown on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Middleweight Gabriel Rosado sees this fight as a one-sided blowout for the 5’8” Garcia. Rosado doesn’t say why he feels it will be a blow out other than him thinking that Garcia is a super talented fighter.

Garcia didn’t blowout his last opponent Malignaggi or his opponent before that in Lucas Matthysse. The guys that Garcia has blown out in recent years were smaller fighters than himself like little Rod Salka, a lightweight dragged up to welterweight to fight him, and an aging Erik Morales.

Ortiz-Jennings, Gonzalez-Shabranskyy, & Clottey-Rosado tonight on HBO

Image: Ortiz-Jennings, Gonzalez-Shabranskyy, & Clottey-Rosado tonight on HBO(Photo Credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Dan Ambrose: In one of HBO’s better cards in 2015, heavyweights Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) and Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) will be going at it tonight at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

The Ortiz vs. Jennings card is absolutely stacked with high caliber fighters from top to bottom, and almost any of the undercard fights could work as a main event as a substitute for the Ortiz-Jennings fight.

Joshua Clottey vs. Gabriel Rosado this Saturday

RosadoClottey2(Photo Credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Tim Fletcher: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (39-4, 22 KOs) will be fighting Gabriel Rosado (21-9, 13 KOs) this Saturday night in a scheduled 10 round fight on the undercard of the Bryant Jennings vs. Luis Ortiz fight on HBO from the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

This is a fight that neither guy can afford to lose at this point in their careers. Rosado isn’t old at 29, but with the way his career has been sinking in the last two years, he might as well be old. Rosado has lost 4 out of his last 5 fights since 2013, and he hasn’t won a fight since beating Charlie Whitaker in 2012.
