By Sishaq: As the old saying goes father time is undefeated. And because of that win streak we must bid adieu to the era of Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Those of us lucky to be alive were witnesses to a special athlete who was groomed to be nothing more in life except a world class boxer.

Mayweather was interested in promoting DeMarcus Corley vs Zab Judah rematch

corley76By Brendan Taylor: DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (44-27-1, 26 KO’s) has had a career which has seen him fight in 15 countries across the globe. The height of that career took place in the early part of the 2000’s as he picked up the WBO super lightweight title and would later pick up a quality victory over the hard punching Randall Bailey. Following his win against Bailey he took on Zab Judah and lost a competitive split decision to Judah back in 2003.

Both fighters have reached the point of “Father time” in their career and only Corley has remained active through the years. Judah’s last fight was a unanimous decision loss from Paulie Malignaggi back in 2013. Despite the long layoff, Judah has tried returning to the ring on numerous occasions only to have his fights cancelled. So with all that being taken into account, understand that Judah needs to shake off some ring rust.

Yesterday in an interview I did with DeMarcus Corley he expressed to me his desire to not just continue his fighting career, but to also make a rematch with Zab Judah happen. Through out the course of our conversation he details a sparring session that took place last year in Las Vegas between himself and Zab.”I put it on Zab for 2 rounds, all he gave me was 2 rounds” said Corley.

Rafael Garcia: Before they push me aside, I’m leaving Team Mayweather

floyd9By Raj Parmar: Rafael Garcia, the long-time corner man of pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather, has officially announced that he will no longer be a part of Mayweather’s future fights in a corner man capacity. Garcia served as cut-man for Floyd for many years and also was in charge of wrapping Floyd’s hands but is now ready to retire from the sport at 85 years old.

Mayweather himself as well as other members of Floyd’s camp have always been quick to praise Garcia and lauded him as the best cut-man in the game. This past weekend’s fight between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana saw some changes though in the regular procedures for how Floyd prepares for a fight, as Garcia was not the one to wrap Floyd’s hands. Another member of Mayweather’s camp named Bob Ware wrapped Garcia’s hands.

NSAC to question Mayweather about unsafe sparring and marijuana possession

floyd58544By Raj Parmar: The Nevada State Athletic Commission will bring in pound for pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in for questioning after reviewing footage shown in the All Access series that previewed Mayweather’s rematch with Marcos Maidana. The commission did not look too fondly on the sparring sessions Floyd staged in his gym along with some images of him with marijuana in his immediate vicinity.

“On Sunday, I watched the [All Access] episodes when they were sent to me by another commissioner,” NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar told espn.co.uk, “I was watching the part with the sparring sessions. Our main concern is the health and safety of the fighters and not just on fight night, but also in sparring and in training.”

Will Mayweather resort back to strictly defensive boxing in Maidana rematch?

YouTube video
By Raj Parmar: Top pound for pound boxing star Floyd Mayweather (46-0, 26 KO’s) is definitely not new to criticism of his boxing style with constant allegations that his fights are not exciting. Back in 2006, after outpointing  welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, Floyd famously got into an argument in the ring with HBO broadcaster Larry Merchant after Merchant noted that fans left the arena during the fight and were booing Mayweather due to how boring the fight was.

In-Fighting: Signs of division in Golden Boy slowly showing up

delahoya92By Raj Parmar: Back in 2007, then super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya faced off against Floyd Mayweather in one of the richest fights in boxing history. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions (founded by De La Hoya in 2002) and a heated build up between Oscar and Mayweather ensued, so much that there is still high tension between the two to this day.

Both Oscar and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer were greatly disappointed when Mayweather pulled out a split decision win, as Oscar and Richard were very close personally and professionally at this point.

Eye for an Eye: Mikey Garcia drops in on Mayweather training camp

garcia0By Raj Parmar: As Floyd Mayweather trained in front of media members on his scheduled open training day session yesterday, there was an interesting observer in the gym. Watching quietly and intently as Mayweather fiercely pounded his fists away in the ring was super featherweight champion Mikey Garcia, who took in all the action as he stood alongside the many photographers and cameraman that were absorbing in Mayweather’s every move.

Mikey is the younger brother of trainer Robert Garcia, who is currently training Marcos Maidana with hopes of being the first ones to give Mayweather a loss on May 3.
