Thurman thinks Mayweather used Errol Spence to get him off his back

thurman333By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) still believes WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) put unbeaten hard hitting #8 WBA contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) on him to get him to back off from badgering him to try and get a fight.

Despite Spence saying himself that he wants the Thurman fight because he sees him as a flawed fighter that he can beat, Thurman doesn’t believe that Spence is sincere about wanting to fight him. He thinks that the only reason why Spence is saying he wants to fight him is because his “Uncle Mayweather” put him up to it.

Errol Spence faces Chris Van Heerden on September 11th in Toronto, Canada

spence53By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. had no luck in getting WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman to agree to fight unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) on September 12th, so instead of Spence facing Thurman, he’ll be taking on #8 IBF contender Chris Van Heerden (23-1-1, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout on September 11th on the undercard of the title fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and Tommy Karpency at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

The Spence-Van Heerden fight will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV. This will enable the 25-year-old Spence to get some badly needed publicity.

Errol Spence to fight on September 11th on Stevenson-Karpency card

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: #8 WBA 147lb contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) will be back in the ring on September 11th against an opponent still to be determined on the undercard of the fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and Tommy Karpency on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV at the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario.

“Sept. 11 on Spike, Errol SpenceJr is slated for the co-feature. Opponent TBA. Stevenson-Karpency mismatch is the main event. #boxing,” Dan Rafael said on his Twitter.

The Stevenson vs. Karpency fight isn’t anything to get excited about, as it’s a straight up mismatch, and even worse than Stevenson’s last mismatch against Dmitry Sukhotsky. But adding Spence to the card could make it an interesting card depending on how they match the talented 25-year-old against.

Keith Thurman blows a gasket at Errol Spence’s name being mentioned

thurman4444By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) got heated during an interview on Saturday at the mere mention of undefeated No.8 WBA 147lb contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs), who many boxing fans see as the future of the welterweight division.

Thurman got heated when asked if he was going to fight the talented 25-year-old Spence. Instead of saying that he’ll fight him, Thurman suggested that Spence should fight the Top Rank promoted Diego Chaves or fight two other guys that he’s beaten during his career. Thurman then said that he would negotiate to fight Spence if he could get a guarantee that he if wins, he’ll get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Porter won’t fight Errol Spence unless Mayweather puts money on table, says Kenny P

porter44By Dan Ambrose: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to get former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) to fight unbeaten #8 WBA 147lb contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) on his next undercard for one of his world titles on September 12th, then Mayweather is going to have to put up some money, says Porter’s father/trainer Kenny Porter.

He says Porter won’t face Spence, of whoever Mayweather wants him to fight, unless he’s paid. However, Kenny doubts Mayweather will do this because it would mean that he’d be overpaying Spence, and he thinks that setup a situation where the other young fighters would want to be overpaid as well for their fights with Mayweather Promotions.

Errol Spence wants Khan, Thurman or Porter on September 12th

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) wants a big name for his next fight on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Spence and trainer Derrick James want Amir Khan, Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter for the September card, and they believe that one of Mayweather’s welterweight titles will be on the line for the fight.

Mayweather said last month after Spence’s 3rd round knockout win over Phil Lo Greco (26-2, 14 KOs) on the Adrien Broner vs. Porter fight card on June 20th, that he’d like to see Spence battle it out against Porter or Thurman on September 12th for one of is welterweight world titles that he’d be giving up for them to fight over.

Mayweather giving Errol Spence major support

spence53By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s ready to vacate his 147 pound titles to let #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) to fight for them against Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter on his next undercard on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather is waiting on the word from one of those two fighters to see if they’re willing to face the unbeaten Spence for the titles.

What’s interesting here is how Mayweather is giving the 25-year-old Spence the kind of support that he was previously giving to Adrien Broner.
