Hearn says Errol Spence’s team turned down Kell Brook fight

hearn7444By Jeff Aranow: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says he was told by the management for unbeaten #2 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) that he isn’t ready to fight Brook for a world title yet.

Hearn says he asked them if they wanted the fight with Brook, but was told that he’s not ready to fight for a world title yet. It’s hard to imagine the management for Spence turning down a fight against Brook, because that’s a fight that Spence badly wants and he’s in position to fight for the title.

Spence recently stopped former WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri in five rounds on April 16 last month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. At the time, it was thought that Spence would be the IBF mandatory challenger after that win.

Spence-Barrera & Charlo-Campfort this Saturday on PBC

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #10 WBA, #10 WBC, #13 WBO welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (18-0, 15 KOs) will be fighting this Saturday night against Alejandro Barrera (26-2, 17 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from The Bomb Factory, in Dallas, Texas.

It’s a fight that isn’t a great match-up for the 25-year-old Spence, but at least it’s a fight that will keep him busy and marching forward with his pro career. Spence wants the bigger fights, but right now he doesn’t have the ranking and the popularity to force those important fights.

Spence recently beat Chris Van Heerden, Phil Lo Greco and Samuel Vargas by knockouts. Those are decent level opposition, but not the kind of opponents that will get Spence the bigger fights that he wants.

Errol Spence Jr to fight in Nov or Dec

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Undefeated #12 WBA, #13 WBO, #15 WBC welterweight contender Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) will be fighting in the next two months against opponents still to be determined in November or December, he says. Spence, 25, stopped Chris van Heerden by an 8th round knockout last September on the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency card in Toronto.

It was an impressive before to say the least for the hard hitting Spence, who destroyed a very good fighter in Van Heerden in dropping him twice in the fight in the 7th round before the contest was finally stopped with Van Heerden still on his feet but taking heavy punishment in the 8th round.

Mayweather Sr: Errol Spence is going to get whooped!

YouTube video

By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t too impressed with #10 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) for some reason. Floyd Sr. thinks that the 25-year-old Spence is going to get whipped sooner or later by someone. He doesn’t say who will do the job on him though, because it’s certainly not going to be Floyd Mayweather Jr. now that he’s retired from the sport.

Golovkin vs. Ward would be a sellout, says Hunter

Image: Golovkin vs. Ward would be a sellout, says HunterBy Dan Ambrose: Trainer Virgil Hunter doesn’t buy the excuses coming from IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s team that a fight between Golovkin and his fighter WBA 168lb champion Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) wouldn’t be a big fight that would have a large impact at the gate.

Hunter thinks that a fight between Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) and Ward would be a sellout, and would attract a great deal of interest in the boxing community.

Thurman: Errol Spence could fight for title in 2017

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: #10 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) is going to need a while longer for he can possibly get a fight against WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs), because Thurman is saying that the 25-year-old Spence needs more experience before he can get a world title shot.

Thurman thinks that Spence is reaching too high by calling him out without having fought enough top guys to earn the title shot. Thurman thinks that Spence won’t be ready for a title shot for a little over a year until the first quarter of 2017.

Stevenson vs. Karpency & Spence vs. Van Heerden tonight on Spike

spence53By Dan Ambrose: WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) will be inside the ring tonight to defend his WBC title against American southpaw Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Stevenson-Karpency card will start at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. It’s on free television for Americans, so it’s a really good deal.

Karpency is going to need a knockout to get a victory tonight because he does not have the talent to match-up with Stevenson in a head to head battle. If Karpency is smart, he’ll be swinging for the fences from the first minute of the first round.

Errol Spence with chance to prove himself against Chris Van Heerden

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) has a big chance to prove what he can do in his fight next month against #8 IBF Chris Van Heerden (23-1-1, 12 KOs) on September 11th on the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency card on Premier Boxing Champions from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario.

Spence, 25, was hoping to get a world title shot against WBC “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman, but he didn’t have any interest in facing Spence despite the fact that Spence had Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe asking Thurman in his behalf.
