Donaire’s dad wants Nonito to fight like he used to

donaire756 - CopyBy Chris Williams: In the last several fights, Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) has visibly slowed with his ability to get around the ring, and he’s now become something of a slow plodder with feet that look like they’re stuck in quick drying cement. First it was Guillermo Rigondeaux who made Donaire look bad in beating him easily last year, and then it was the 40ish Vic Darchinyan who gave Donaire a beating last November before tiring and getting stopped in the 9th.

Donaire’s dad wants him to start moving and dancing around the ring like he did during his best years in the ring, but it’s unclear whether the soon to be 32-year-old Donaire can do that.

Donaire to start training for Simpiwe Vetyeka fight next week

donaire756 - CopyBy Chris Williams: Former three division world champion Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will start training for his May 31st title challenge against IBO/WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire will be looking to capture his 4th division world title, and he’s picked out a softer target in champion Simpiwe Vetyeka than he would be if he went after WBC champ Jhonny Gonzalez, IBF champion Evgeny Gradovich or the winner of the WBO title fight between Gary Russell Jr. and Vasy Lomachenko. All of those guys would be very tough fights for Donaire.

Also on the card, WBA regular featherweight champion Nicholas Walters will be defending his title against Alejandro Perez, IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich will be facing an opponent still to be determined, super bantamweight Chris Avalos will be fighting Yasutaka Ishimoto and flyweight Brian Viloria will be facing an opponent still to be determined.

Donaire to face Vetyeka on May 10th in Macao, China

donaire75By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will be getting a title shot against IBO/WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) on May 10th at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire, 31, hasn’t done much to deserve the title shot considering he has never fought an actual featherweight before. He’s getting the title shot off of beating super bantamweight Vic Darchinyan, who he pulled up to the featherweight division in his last fight in their needless rematch last November.

It was a pointless rematch because Donaire had already knocked Darchinyan out in 5 rounds in 2007, so there really wasn’t any point in Donaire fighting the much smaller Darchinyan again and there definitely wasn’t any point in fighting him at featherweight. Donaire should have fought a real featherweight so that he earn a title shot against Vetyeka.

Donaire to fight Vetyeka in April or May for WBA featherweight title

donaire756 - CopyBy Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will be back in the ring in April or May and will be challenging newly crowned WBA featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) in attempt to capture a 4th division World title. Donaire has already won World titles at flyweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight.

Donaire finally met his match in getting easily beaten by WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux last year in April, and he hasn’t appeared eager to get back in the ring with the Cuban defensive artist. Instead of fighting Rigondeaux again, Donaire moved up to the featherweight division, and in his first fight at that weight, Donaire fought super bantamweight Vic Darchinyan.
