Donaire-Vetyeka possible for Pacquiao’s undercard in November

donaire7By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank says that four division world champion Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KO’s) will be back in the ring as soon as the cut over his left eye heals. The date he’s looking at is for November 23rd on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s next fight card in Macao, China. Having Donaire on Pacquiao’s undercard might pump up the pay-per-view numbers a little bit for HBO, but probably not enough to bring it over 1 million buys unless Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez.

Donaire suffered a cut over his left eye from a head-clash in the 1st round last Saturday night in his fight against Vetyeka in Macao, China. The fight was controversial because instead of the fight being halted within the first three rounds, it was allowed to continue until just long enough for a victor to be decided.

Arum: Donaire should be proud of his performance against Vetyeka

donaire7788By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KO’s) won the WBA Super World featherweight title last night in a fight that went 4 rounds – just long enough for him to get the victory – last night with his technical decision win over champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-3, 16 KO’s) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire was given a victory by the judge’s scores of 49-46, 49-46, and 49-46.

The fight was stopped because of a cut over the left eye of Donaire which was caused by an accidental head-butt in the 1st round. Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum was pleased with his performance, and he said at the post-fight press conference that Donaire should be proud with the way he was able to carry on after being cut.

Donaire defeats Vetyeka by controversial technical decision

YouTube video
By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KO’s) defeated WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-3, 16 KO’s) by a very controversial 4 round technical decision on Saturday night at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire suffered a cut in the 1st round from what appeared to be a right hand that that clipped him while he was trying to move out of range. Donaire complained that he couldn’t see out of the cut and this eventually resulted in the fight being stopped.

They said it was from a head-butt. However, there was no clash of heads. Instead of a head clash, Donaire was nailed by a right hand on his left eye and this caused him to go down. In slow motion replay it shows that Donaire was cut from a punch rather than a head clash, so the referee blew the call in saying it was from a head clash. If he had ruled it correctly than Vetyeka would have won the fight because Donaire wouldn’t have been able to continue. So in other words, Vetyeka got jobbed in this fight.

Vetyeka: I’m prepared to frustrate Donaire

vetyeka67By Chris Williams: WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) will be defending his title tonight against former three division world champion Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) in a fight that will be televised on HBO at 4 pm ET/PT from the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Vetyeka, 33, sees Donaire as a bully that he’s going to expose tonight and put him in his place in front of the entire world. Vetyeka isn’t worried about what Donaire has done in the past in his fights against smaller fighters in the super flyweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions, because he feels that he’s a fighter that doesn’t match up well with him and he plans on giving him a beating.

Merchant sees Donaire getting big fights if he defeats Vetyeka on Saturday

donaire456By Chris Williams: Former HBO commentator Larry Merchant sees former three weight world champion Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) getting some big fights in the near future if he gets passed WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) in their fight this Saturday at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Merchant believes that how Donaire, 31, performs against Vetyeka will determine if Donaire will be able to keep moving up in weight in the future. Donaire will need to be able to move up in weight if he wants to get the big fights, because boxing fans probably aren’t going to get too excited with Donaire being matched up against the likes of Jhonny Gonzalez, Evgeny Gradovich, Nicholas Walters, Vasyl Lomachenko, Gary Russell Jr. and Vic Darchinyan [again].

Donaire: I’m confident I’ll beat Vetyeka

donaire222By Chris Williams: With his career no longer looking as promising as it once did two years ago when he was voted in as the 2012 Fighter of the Year, Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will be stepping up against his first real featherweight in WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Donaire comes into the fight an underdog against Vetyeka largely due to how poor Donaire looked in his loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux and in his fight against Vic Darchinyan, a fight in which Donaire took a beating and was en route to losing it at the time he pulled out a 9th round stoppage.

Donaire: If Vetyeka runs, I’ll go after him

donaire2By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will be back in the ring this Saturday night challenging WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) for his title at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum lined him up with a title shot in the weight class despite Donaire never having fought a legitimate featherweight before.

Donaire fought at featherweight in his last fight, but that was against super bantamweight Vic Darchinyan, who Donaire dragged up to the featherweight division for his so-called first fight at featherweight. It’s always nice to be able to fight smaller guys in a new weight class, I guess.

Vetyeka not impressed with Donaire

donaire888By Chris Williams: WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) will be defending his title this Saturday night against Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) in a fight that will be taking place at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire moved up to the featherweight division recently, but he still hasn’t fought an actual featherweight. Instead of fighting a featherweight, Donaire dragged former super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan up to featherweight to fight. Donaire took a beating in the fight before stopping the 38-year-old Darchinyan in the 9th.

Vetyeka said that Donaire’s “only strength is his ability to catch his opponent with a surprise punch but I hope he is well prepared to face me because I am. Even if the fight was tomorrow, I’m more than ready.”

Vetyeka vs. Donaire: is Nonito’s big left enough to beat Simpiwe?

donaire55By Gerardo Granados: Next May 31 at the Cotai Arena in Macao, China; Nonito Donaire will try to win his fourth divisional championship when he challenges WBA Super World “featherweight” champion Simpiwe Vetyeka. By the way have the reader noticed that in the same card Vic Darchinyan will challenge Nicholas Walters for the WBA World “featherweight” championship; not that it will surprise the reader but it is quite odd.

Once up on a time the former three division champion Nonito Donaire had bright future, but after been defeated by the current WBA – WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, things have not been as good as in the past. Nonito was awarded by several sites and sports media as the 2012 boxer of the year and it seemed like Donaire could keep on dominating his opponents for a long time but Rigondeaux not only out box him but also hurt him, not referring only that he wobbled him but also that he broke an orbital bone on his left side that was reinjured in his last bout.

Donaire: We are going to chase 6 or 7 titles

donaire2221By Chris Williams: Former three division world champion Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) will be going after his fourth division world title this month when he faces WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KO’s) at the end of the month on May 31st at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Vetyeka, 33, is seen by some boxing fans as the most vulnerable of the current featherweight champions, and the most beatable guy for Donaire to pick up his fourth division world title. Donaire says he wants to go after more world title belts after this fight.
