Image: Scully: Dawson wants Ward to come inside on him this SaturdayBy Eric Thomas: John Scully, the trainer for WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s), believes that Dawson actually wants WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) to come inside on him this Saturday night when the two fighters meet in an HBO televised fight at the Oracle Arena, in Oakland, California.

Scully told RingTV “I actually think, and Chad can tell you better, but I think that Chad wants him [Ward] to come like that…There is so much talent and power and explosiveness that the fact is he’s never shown.”

The 6’2″ southpaw Dawson was so much better back then, showing better hand speed, throwing more combinations, looking lighter on his feet and displaying better defensive ability. Back then, Dawson easily beat a young version of Tomasz Adamek by a lopsided 12 round decision.

By Jason Kim: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) admits to having problems when he first started his training camp for his September 8th fight against Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s). Ward, 28, was coming off a hand injury to his left hand and hadn’t fought since December when he defeated Carl Froch in the Super Six tournament finals. The long period of inactivity made it difficult for Ward to get back into the swing of things.
